Final Highwaymen Album Gets Expanded

The third and final album from country supergroup the Highwaymen -- Johnny Cash, Waylon Jennings, Kris Kristofferson and Willie Nelson -- will be reissued in expanded form this fall to celebrate its 10th anniversary.
"The Road Goes on Forever" will arrive Sept. 27 via Capitol Nashville/EMI Music Catalog Marketing bolstered with six previously unreleased tracks. A second edition will be available with a new DVD chronicling the making of the album.
Among the bonus songs are the unused studio track "If He Came Back Again," Nelson and Cash's version of "Back in the Saddle Again" and four acoustic demos later re-cut with a band for "The Road Goes on Forever." Lone surviving Highwaymen Nelson and Kristofferson have contributed new liner notes for the packaging.
Beyond the video for "Is Is What It Is," footage for the DVD was shot in the studio by album producer Don Was and is seeing its first commercial release here. Beginning Oct. 14, a newly created documentary on the Highwaymen will premiere on CMT.
The Highwaymen are perhaps best known for "Highwayman," the title cut from their 1995 debut album and unofficial group theme song. It reached No. 1 on Billboard's Hot Country Singles & Tracks chart, while the album was a long-running No. 1 on the Top Country Albums tally.
