Yup!

IL is one of the states with higher wages....check out TX

TX goes with the fed. min. I am guessing.
here, you can make better money working at McDonald's or Wendy's than I made 10 years ago working in MT. (which probably explains the trip east, even if it wasn't for the cool polyester uniforms and paper hats).

Dave and I make a good living....live w/i our means, have a modest mtg, and support the american auto industry, but after taxes, insurance et al we are not rolling in the dough!
At least we have enuf to see the Reefers every year!!!
Ditto that, except I'm in management, not HR. I know what the other 300 people in my firm make....and I really couldn't care less. I also couldn't care less if people knew what I make...which is only $47k

It does pretty well in my area too. Things are pretty affordable in Gainesville, despite the University being here (though anything within 2 miles of the Campus is overpriced)

And it's such a pretty place full of intelligent young people. The international
influence of the faculty adds to the appeal. A shame it's landlocked.

There should be NO MINIMUM WAGE.
I have never (Well except when I was around 10 doing farm work) had to work for minimum wage. Why? Because minimun wage only protects the weak/lazy.

Last year Florida voted to raise the minimum wage to $6.15 per hour. I will reserve my feelings on that for another thread.... However listen to this:
The Department of Labor is a
federal government office. States do not have a DOL (and DOL cannot enforce a state law.....) office therefore they made a law in the state of Florida that CANNOT be enforced. Which absolutly cracks me up!

Agree, but Federal minimum wage does not apply to farm labor. Overtime regulations do not apply either, if I remember correctly.

I can't speak about Florida, but many states have agencies to deal with labor issues on the state level. Essentially, they can enact and enforce regulations which are stricter than those outlined in the Fair Labor Standards Act, but not more lenient.
