A New Margaritaville Restaurant coming to South Florida?

Post by scorpiopsl »

From the Port Saint Lucie News
http://www.tcpalm.com/tcp/local_news/ar ... 49,00.html

Stuart officials might have taken the first step Friday when they directed staff to start negotiations with two firms poised to redevelop two parcels at opposite ends of the Roosevelt drawbridge. Under the public-private partnerships, Huizenga Holdings would build a marina, offices and a restaurant near the Southpoint Anchorage.

At the north foot of the bridge, Sustainable Development Group — made up of five local businessmen — proposes a 27,000-square-foot dry-storage boat facility beside what could be the next Jimmy Buffett's Margaritaville restaurant — or Capt. Hiram's or Pincher's.

Vicini said his group has talked with representatives of singer Buffett about opening a 4,000-square-foot Margaritaville or Cheeseburger in Paradise at the city-owned site.

call me foolish for this opinion, but part of the magic of Margaritaville is that they are not exploding like mushrooms all over the country. Unlike CBiP Sorry Capt. P (which claims to be the gateway to my concert experience), M'ville is definitely a destination location with repeatability. You throw them up all over SoFL and the magic goes away rather fast.

The difference between the two is that M-Ville was designed to be a destination for Parrotheads. CIP was designed to bring the Island to you. It's the local place you can go to escape.

CIP was also not designed to be a Buffett shrine. It was designed to be a place that Jimmy himself would like to go and hang out. That's why you only hear Jimmy every 5th song or so.

All that being said, there is a CIP coming to South Florida soon....Plantation, FL!

That's cool. I guess I am spoiled with semi-regular runs down south that the idea of them building Margaritavilles like CBiPs would defeat the purpose, and that I get the feeling Mr. Buffett would not be putting one in so close to two others.

Stuart does pretty much everything they can to keep chain restaraunts out of that area, I would be suprised if they let it happen, but I guess anything is possible.

Would be pretty toight though! Especially if it had a near by dock to park the boat :)

looks like there's a non-complete clause preventing any JB restaurant from opening within 150 miles of the Mville - Orlando restaurant.

I'd feel bad for you, but I have no soul.....

Buffett granted to Universal an exclusive license to develop a Jimmy Buffett's Margaritaville Cafe restaurant or a restaurant, night club or other venue primarily for food or beverage in the "exclusive territory". Buffett agreed not to open a competing establishment in a territory consisting of: a territory that is within (1) a 150 mile radius of the Universal venue or (2) any gated-attraction theme park (or entertainment complex attached to a theme park) in the State of Florida with an annual attendance of at least 500,000 customers.

I still would love to see Margaritaville NYC. Probably wishful thinking, but he does have the huge apartment here to check in on it!
