Growing older (not up) as a Parrothead!

Well as many of the newer generation Parrotheads my Buffett collection is somewhat meager.

My first CD was SYKBH, then Live in Las Vegas followed by a CD burned by a BNer of my first JB concert in San Jose. Later I bought MMIM and then LTC. I also picked up Live in Hawaii (which had that cool DVD extra.)

I am getting a bit burned out on the SYKBH songs and a lot of the concerts mostly follow the SYKBH/MMIM songlist. I didn't really like the very countryesque LTC. I just don't dig country.

So here I am looking for new Buffett much like the old Buffett even my last concert was too LTC for me. Sigh . . . what is a fledgling Parrothead to do?

I often hear the "Silverback Parrotheads" say "I wish he would play <fill in the blank>" or "WOO HOO he's playing <fill in the blank>!"

So last week I bought BBB&B and Banana Wind. WOW! This is the Jimmy I was missing! I am so excited!

Are there any other must have CDs? I will probably use iTunes to preview/collect individual songs (maybe then my iPod shuffle will come up with a JB song :D ).

After I read Don't Stop the Carnival I will pick up that CD. I've heard that is a great JB experience. Are there any other CDs out there that just aren't covered by BBB&B and are a "must own?"

I also branched out and ordered a couple of CDs from Sunny Jim:

Postcards from 7 Mile Beach
Tropical Trader

Years ago I saw him live in the Cayman Islands (the weekend I asked Bridget to marry me) and really liked the stuff he was playing.

I'll see which direction Jimmy's creative juices flow for the next album (I hope, I hope) but for now I am enjoying/discovering "Classic Jimmy"

John - Floriday's is a MUST. A few years ago a very special BN'er who came to LDOL went out a bought it for me when she found out I didn't own it (Thanks Bumper :D ).....you'll love it, I promise :-)

Also get A1A, Farside of the world, and Barometer Soup. They are all great Buffett albums, as well as Fruit Cakes and Off To See The Lizzard, along with you had to be there (live album)

I'll shut up now

Havana Daydreamin, White Sport Coat and a Pink Crustecean are two of my favorites. However you said you didnt really like the country side of jimmy so I would try cds like coconut telegraph and son of a son of a sailor.

I consider Floridays, A1A, Barometer Soup, and Hot Water(just because it's so contraversial, some people love it, some really dislike it) the essentials. I know when I first started getting into Buffett I found it easier to learn some of his older stuff by listening to live CD's. That way I got some of the Buffett I knew with some stuff I didn't know.

I'll also add in One Particular Harbor in addition to all those mentioned.

if you don't dig country then stay away from his first few albums and that includes A1A. Like you I did not care for country but my tastes have changed.
Also if you like Sunny Jim you should try Jim Morris.

He's much better in my opinion.

Hey son-of-a! I totally agree. Jim Morris is the best. Polly....The Floating Opera is a must have . My favorite is Montana Moon, Montana Sky. I could sing that song all day long! :D Definitely give Jim Morris a try.

I say buy them all! So many great songs for so many different moods, it's hard for me to pick a "must have" because every CD has songs I really like on it.

Some personal faves...Riddles in the Sand, Hot Water, Off to See the Lizard, Floridays, Coconut Telegraph, A1A...along with others mentioned above.

eventually you'll probably want all the cd's for your collection. like others have said, certain moods will dictate what album you'll want to listen to. Lately I've been listening to Fruitcakes a lot. It's one of my favorite albums... Gotta love Quietly Making noise. I'd also get Barometer Soup - Lage Nom Ai is such a great song.. Get OPH... just get them all!

I've made up my mind that I'm going to buy every single Jimmy Buffett CD and add to my collection, a little at a time.

BTW I just listened to Banana Wind for the first time, it says that there are 12 tracks but I listened to a hidden 13th track. I had bought the album used so is it possible that this track is not present on the rereleases. (There is no name but I'm just guessing that Jimmy did not want to release a CD with 13 tracks :) Actually I agree with that line of thought :) )

That's on all releases of the cd.
It's a cover of "Treetop Flyer" by Stephen Stills

I highly recommend Sunny Jim and Jim Morris. I really like Tropical Trader. Another great Sunny Jim cd is Sandbar Serenade. The title track is awsome. Jim Morris has a great starter cd called Seafood Platter. It is a compilation of songs from several of his cd's.
Enjoy discovering the music of Sunny Jim and Jim Morris.

Recently I've been listening to Last Mango and Hot Water and really enjoying them so I would suggest them and I've always loved Son of a Son and Volcano.

You really can't go too far wrong with any of Jimmy's albums, there is something on everyone of them that you will discover to be a gem.

My personal favs are:
You Had To Be There
Riddles in the Sand
A1A

However, Riddles does have more of a country feel to it.
