Nasty Baseball Collision

Mike Cameron suffered multiple fractures of both cheekbones and a broken nose after colliding with Carlos Beltran in the Mets' 2-1 loss Thursday.

I can't find a direct link to the clip but if you go to www.mets.com and click where it says "Cameron, Beltran collide (not for the faint of heart)" you'll see it.... :-? :-? :-?

I think one guy has stitches over his eye, and the other a broken nose. One of them suffered a pretty serious concussion, too. So far, no word of a neck injury, thank God.

I think it's pretty safe to say that I can remove Cameron from my fantasy baseball line-up for a while :-?

That definitely has to be one of the all-time worse collisions!

Hope he makes a speedy recovery and this doesn't affect his career down the road.

I have a question. The ball that was hit, the batter got a triple. Is this a rule when a player is injured or was it something one does out of respect for the injury?

Personally if it were me batting I would have held up at 3rd unless my coach waived me in. I just didn't know if you had to - if it were a rule.

Where's Cubbie when ya need him?

When the ball's loose in the outfield, you just keep running. I didn't see the game but I'm guessing either Cliff Floyd ran over from left field or one of the infielders ran out to the outfield and tracked the ball down.

don't know 'bout Cubbie,
but I was there with Crusty yesterday sitting in right field bleachers, and it was UGLY!! :(
You could hear it as they smacked head-on, both in full dive going for that ball.
Yet, as a baseball fan, I knew that ball was still in play, and we were both screaming, "RUN..RUN..RUN!!!"

It was scary to see Cameron lying so still for the first few seconds.
I really thought that he had broke his neck! :o :(

The shortstop was first to retrieve the live ball in play.
If the runner wasn't backup catcher, David (Lee) Ross, we would've probably scored an inside-the-park run there.

Right after the collision you can see Marlon Anderson enter the picture and throw the ball into the infield before turning to Mike Cameron. If he hadn't done that you can be sure the guy wouldn't have stopped at 3rd... Unfortunately the play must go on until the ball is dead. Otherwise you'd have people faking injuries to get people to stop on the basepaths...

Cubbie's here.....

as stated there is no rule. Run till they stop ya.

Worst one I ever saw was Carlos Delgado and the left field wall of Welland Stadium, Welland Ontario. Guess that is why he became a first baseman. He was taken off the field on a board, I thought he broke his freakin' neck

When I saw that, it turned my stomach. The sound was louder than the crowd cheering for the ball to drop in. I heard that Floyd, the left fielder, stopped once he saw blood. His quote was "I can't deal with blood." Still Anderson at short or Matsui at second was the closest to the play. Both players spent the night in Scripps La Jolla (Cameron was transfered from Mercy). Phin Power to both of them

Hmmm, :-?

There is some real confusion over WHO got that ball and got it back into the infield.
Shane says he saw Marlin Anderson, who was playing at 1B, get the ball back in.
Local paper says that Kaz Matsui, playing 2B, got to the ball first.
MLB.com says it was Chris Woodward at SS who made play.
Me and Crusty were both drankin', spilling our beers :o

Let's face it, we were all so freaked out by the collision, nobody REALLY noticed who threw it back in! :-?

Let's roll that footage....
