Saw a great concert yesterday and discovered Jim Morris....
Yesterday was the one year anniversary of Hurricane Charley devastating the town I live in. So, to celebrate the relief, recovery, and rebuilding, the city of Punta Gorda threw a free outdoor party / concert. The artist headlining the event was a guy named Jim Morris and The Big Bamboo band. Prior to yesterday, I'd never heard of the guy but he was great live and his music is very Buffett-esque. Funny how you discover new musicians, and music, in the oddest places.

LOL! I've been a Parrothead for quite sometime but in so many ways, I'm still a keet when it comes to discovering everything related to this wonderful world!Touch O Parrotdise wrote:jim is old hat here.. try sunny jim white also.. a few others too if you search other threads..Tony5150RN wrote:Yesterday was the one year anniversary of Hurricane Charley devastating the town I live in. Re: Saw a great concert yesterday and discovered Jim Morris.
I found his music courtesy of the "Thongs in the Key Of Life" compilation cd a few years back. As soon as I heard "Bocanuts" I knew I had to buy more. The first time I saw him was at Fishstock down there in Punta Gorda back in 2000. I figured every parrothead down there knew of him. That was the only time I've been there and I would sure love to come back. Really cool guy and was also part of the reason I picked up the guitar.Tony5150RN wrote:Yesterday was the one year anniversary of Hurricane Charley devastating the town I live in. I'd give it another year or so before you come back down. There's still a lot of devastation, debris, and thing that need to be repaired. However, we're making a comeback and Charlotte County is going to be better, and more beautiful, when all is said and done.sonofabeach wrote:I found his music courtesy of the "Thongs in the Key Of Life" compilation cd a few years back. We sat on the porch and watched shingles blow down the street.

Glad you finally got turned on to Jim Morris. He's great and the band is great. I was lucky that I have enough friends down there so I got to hear most of the PG show via cell phones. Sounds like you all had a blast.
Tony, you do know what the next step to full Bocanutism is, don't you? (see my sig line)
P.S. Move over....my hubby and I are moving down there in 14 months! Yay!

It was an awesome show even though I had to work and couldn't enjoy the "Spirits" of Punta Gorda. (The Federal Disaster Medical Assistance Team that I'm a member of ran a first-aid tent for the event.) Not only did I get to hear Jim, I also met, and got my photo with, Jim Cantore, from the Weather Channel, and Congresswoman Katherine Harris. It was a great day.2fla wrote:Glad you finally got turned on to Jim Morris. He's great and the band is great.
