I grew up a Red Sox fan.... My parents and grandparents are/were Red Sox fans.... There was always a game on TV.... Every kid playing sandlot ball wanted to be Yaz, or Freddie Lynn, or Dewey Evans, or Pudge Fisk. There were no Yankees fans in our town; they were The Enemy, and they lived Down South, in New York City.....

No matter where I've roamed, in over 20 years away from New England, I've remained a Red Sox fan, and I'll die a Red Sox fan. :D

Washington Redskins for life. I bleed burgundy and gold.

Cincinnati Reds. I loved the way Pete Rose played the game. All out on every play.

University of Virginia on everything. We live about 25 miles from the campus.

I am from Fla so my teams will always be the Fins and the Canes...we didn't have the Marlins until the 90's so I am an Atlanta fan...I like The Marlins as well, just not when they play Atlanta. I guess I am also a Heat fan, though I only watch basketball caus ethe hubby likes it. He likes whoever is good. He played basketball for a long time, so he likes to watch teams and players that are really good, he doesn't have a favorite team, but favorite players!

All my life a Red Sox fan, as are many Atlantic Canadians. Montreal Canadiens for hockey, and in a home where everyone else was Leafs or Detroit, that was dicey sometimes! :D Patriots football.

NFL Tampa Bay
BB Yankees
Basketball.... no preference
College FSU alumni... I bleed Garnet and Gold!

But to answer the Q... I think supporting the local sports teams in your area is important. Which means I will go to the Devil Rays games.... once in a while! I spent my summers in NYC for 15 years... and went to at least 4-5 Yankees games every summer... thus a fan.

I was literally born into a Yankees and JETS obsessed home. I'm a complete maniac for both teams. When I move to Florida, I will absolutely continue to root for them.

Hell, I'll be suffering with both until the day I die.

You'll have lots of support thats for sure. We are almost outnumbered by Jets at Fins games. And you could move to the most remote jungle in the world and there will still be a Yankees fan there...

Oh I forgot to add earlier that I now live in RI, Pats and Sox terrtory, but I hate them both :)

I live in almost the exact geographic center between the cities where the Cubs/White Sox, Cardinals, Royals, Twins, and Brewers play.
There are probably the same number of fans of each team living here.
Same with the football teams of those cities.

MY alliegences, however tend to stray from the local yokels here-
Baseball-Cubs/Yankees/Braves
Football-Bears/Saints/Falcons
Basketball-Bulls
Hockey-Blackhawks/Canadiens
College-Iowa Hawkeyes/Tennessee Volunteers

(The first teams I named are my favorites in that particular sport-the others are teams I also cheer for).

And in the ONLY sport that really matters-
CEDAR RAPIDS KERNELS
