The Official "8/21/05 Cincy Review" Thread

Theres a reason Jimmy nevers skips Cincy...
Since I am still in recuparation mode from last night, I'll try and go through this review quickly...but let me state for the record that this show was quite possibly the best Buffet concert I have ever seen or heard. It definetly rivals Atlanta '95, The famous Exit Inn show, 9/25/01 Chicago-and just about anything else in my collection..
Cincy is the only place where Jimmy sings "She came down--from Cincinnatti"...and the place goes ABSOLUTELY BONKERS!!! Sorry Boston, Chicago, and Las Vegoose-you may have better ambience and casinos but you don't have that X factor!!!
The Lot/Tailgating
We had a sweet parking space on some grass within short walking distance of the spot. For those of you who were there-you know exactly which spot I'm referring to. Think Girls Gone Wild meets Margaritaville!! Parrotheads never cease to amaze me, with vast array of decor and personality-and Cincy Parrotheads always do it up right..
Since this was the first "non-weeknight" show we have had since 2000-it was obviously very special. This was church for many in attendance-and only the most hardcore Parrotheads made their way into Riverbend last night..
THE SHOW
Let me start by saying that the Coral Reefers were on FIRE!!! Club Trini, girl singers/dancers, and MAC are always reliable, but I've never heard Mac sing as much as he did last night. Having seen him live I really appreciate his vocal talent and playing style more.
But Show MVP by far was Mr. Mayer on lead guitar. OMG was he ever shredding and carving out sickening solos last night. He was a man freakin possessed!!!! I thought his guitar was going to explode during Hey Good Lookin!!!! Awesome job on guitar and he pretty much sealed the deal as the best Coral Reefer guiatrist I've ever known of.
I still haven't even looked at the setlist from last night's show, I don't look at setlists anymore. Buffett shows are getting to valuable and rare to know which songs he will play in which order. And if you can't remember the show then you weren't really there!! I can remember 21 songs from last night, even a Dave Mathews song(??)
HIGHLIGHTS
There were four highlights for me.
4. Fins-not for the Cincy line...but because Jimmy absolutely cracked everyone up during this tune. See, before the song he put on these pink alien ears-and said..."When I'm President everyone will wear these to work"....by the way, he mentioned running for Pres. several times last night!
Anyway, the alien ears fall down over his eyes during the 2nd verse, and he wiggles and shakes his head while laughing hysterically while still singing in an effort to get rid of them-and the 10 second or so comic releif was all captured on the big screen!!! Hilarious stuff!!!
3. Schoolboy Heart- this was #1 on my wishlist before the show. All my friends know this is my favorite song-and I hadn't heard it live since Cincy 2001. Great version, 'nuff said.
2. Banana Republics- I've only cried once at a concert, before this-and that was at Chicago 14 days after 9/11 when Jimmy sang John Lennon's In My Life in the final encore slot. But I shed tears last night. This song really touched me, and I was thinking about personal stuff, you know, really deep meaningful issues. And it was cool to "hustle senoritas while I danced beneath the stars"....
1. Woman Going Crazy on Caroline Street-I have never heard this one live, and from the opeing notes i nearly jumped out of skin in jubilation!!! Again, one of my favs...and by the way- I read the thread about this song being about a transvestite-and I laughed. Anyone who has actually been to Caroline Street already knew that!!!
CONCLUSION
This was incredible show. And we as Parrotheads should write reviews to all shows that we attend. I love reading other people's takes on shows.
Thank you Mr. Jimmy Buffett, Coral Reefers, fellow Parrotheads (especially the guys that gave my girlfriend's car a jump after the show), and for you Buffettnews PH's for taking the time to read this.
Fins Up Cincinnati!
It was a pleasure and a hell of an evening!
