The way he was acting, Katrina was poised to become Andrew, lulling everyone into a false sense of security because it was only a Cat 1.. Sheesh.
perhaps Mr. Cantore knows more about weather than you give him credit for?

I know I never, ever underestimate a hurricane..Never. I have lived in the SE, on the Coast..all my life..and hurricanes are a fact of life here...It just IS.
I'm just hoping and praying for everyones safety..and that they listen to the warnings and GET OUT.
The sound of a Cat 5 hurricane is something that stay with you..forever..
You never forget that sound....or the devastation when you finally get out...When they tell me to leave..I leave.

My paternal grandparents were sailors.... lived in Key Largo... taught me to swim at age 5 by throwing me overboard in the Atlantic! Grandmother always said: Never turn your back on the ocean or the weather!
New Orleans or some place on the gulf coast is in for a mess... as a Florida girl I too have lived with hurricanes for as long as I can remember.... Please heed the warning and get out of town. Your life isnt worth risking!
The bad part is, we are close to midway into the hurricane season and most occur later in the season....

The Mayor of New Orleans has called for Mandatoy evacuation of the city....Last ditch efforts will to be to place people inside the Superdome....
The city is below sea level...The people in that area are in SOME SERIOUS NEED OF SOME SERIOUS PHIN POWER!!!!
Sustained winds were reported at 10:00 AM to be 175 with higher gusts...
