Ever see that episode of "What's Happening" where Rerun tapes the Doobie Brothers concert for some slime ball and gets caught in the act and the Doobies are all like "That's not cool, man, can you dig it?" I think Jimmy's policy is probably like that.

Jimmy broadcasts EVERY show over the net. He encourages people to record them and share. I don't see why taping it inside the venue would be any different, but I'm sure the venue security would object.

If Buffett's not "taper friendly" in the manner of bands such as the Dead, Widespread Panic, the Drive-By Truckers, Phish, Dave Matthews, etc. I'd love to see him do so. Now with the shows being broadcast on Sirius I'm sure the quality has increased dramatically but every show I've ever heard that was taped off of Radio Margaritaville prior to that sounded like absolute sh*t.

The quality of shows from sirius are absolutley perfect. Sounds crystal clear. Unfortuantly though I don't have it, only have downloaded them from other websites

I subscribed to Sirius just to get Radio Margaritaville, of course the English Premier League and BBC Radio 1 were nice bonuses...

The sound is indeed FANTASTIC! I have read about audiophiles complaining that the signal is still compressed for broadcast, but to my tin ear, it sounds damn near CD quality and certainly better than standard FM. I just hook the line out from my Sirius receiver into my PC and capture the show directly to my harddrive using Adobe Audition. I am sure the audiophiles will once again cringe that I am taking a digital signal, feeding it through analog, and then converting back to digital... but it sure sounds great to me! Now if they would just broadcast more of the pre 90's shows so I can upgrade my crappy copies. :-)

no, but i've seen cameras confiscated at a number of different venues. if you're up front and use a flash, charleston will separate you from your camera.

losing your taping equipment is a whole lot worse than losing a disposible camera.

All the more reason Buffett should allow taping. People that think it hurts the band rather helps them really don't understand or else the bands that do allow taping wouldn't do so to start with.

Lee would know more about it, but would there be an issue of royalty payments for any cover songs JB played if taping was allowed?

* The following items will not be allowed to be brought into Wrigley Field:
Food and Beverage items
Umbrellas
Cameras and Video Recorders
Laser Pointers

Wrigley doesn't specify taping equipment, but my guess is audio recorders would be grouped in with cameras and video recorders, and comfiscated.

With no offense intended towards Lee, I know he's a recording artist but I don't understand why he's considered the only authority on such subject matters here or why such a decision can't be reached without his input. To my knowledge bands with long standing taping policies such as the Grateful Dead never had to fork over any cash to the many artists they covered in concert. In fact, the whole taping and trading thing is built on their original business model that no money changes hands.

Hey fxmulder: Do you have a full copy of Sunday's Cincy show?? We've been looking for one since RM crashed at halftime. It's got the Jimmy shoutout to the troops in Baghdad and we want to send it over for them. Can you help out??

With no offense to Jahfin, and only speaking for myself... because his professional experience has earned him the distinction of our resident expert on the music industry.

And saying "Lee would know more about it ..." doesn't mean a decision can't be reached without his input. It just means "Lee would know more about it."
