Live or Studio

Post by mommar »

With so many of us going to Jimmy's concerts, I was just wondering....
do you prefer live recordings of his (or any for that matter) songs, or do you prefer studio-made recordings.

I prefer live recordings, gives me the feeling of being there. Altho studio music has it's place I just like live better :)

Yes, I like the live recordings better. The music sounds so much more natural.

I think Live. Just more energy. The difference in Live and Studio can be so great too. If you listen to studio version of M'Ville, and then a live version, it's almost 2 different songs.

Sometimes more than others,
we see who and what and where we are,
I'm just a one man band,
With my feet in the sand,
Tonight I just need my guitar

I always buy a live ablum first - that way I can hear what they really sound like! To many computers to alter the sound in a studio.

For me, most (certainly not all, and not all of the songs) bands/performers sound better in the studio than they do live. :)

I think it depends on the concert/show, the factors being a) The arrangement of the song being performed, and b) if the performer is having a good night. If these two factors are a all good, there is a very good chance of the live rendition topping the studio version. Given, there are plenty of songs that have been performed live that never held a candle to the studio recordings in any performance.

So it varies for me.

I've found that during the studio versions, I don't have nearly enough BN PHriends around me to truly enjoy the experience.

I'll have to go with LIVE. 8)

I prefer studio since the recording quality is better
About the only song that sounds a lot better live is "You'll never work in this business again"
some songs just do not come out all that great live, Margaritaville comes to mind.

LIVE

Defintely LIVE for me.

Admitted, Jimmy's not the greatest singer, but when it's live, he's having fun and it comes through the song.

Studio versions sound good, clean, rehearsed, and like he's working instead of having fun. :-?
