Been meaning to tell you guys this
For those of you who don't know, I'm a third grade teacher, and I got tired of the old, "touch your head/shoulders/nose when you're ready" and taught my kids "fins up if you're ready." Out of nowhere they started swaying to the left and right! It took me almost a whole minute to regain my composure and start teaching the next lesson.

It's just a way to have all the students show you that they're ready and to focus on the task at hand.springparrot wrote:Guess I"m not familar with the touch your head, etc., but WooHoo on teaching them FinsIlph wrote:For those of you who don't know, I'm a third grade teacher, and I got tired of the old, "touch your head/shoulders/nose when you're ready" and taught my kids "fins up if you're ready." Me too! I think I'll work it into the flight deck! Maybe "Fins up, we're cleared for take off!!" Or, "V1, FinsUP, V2!"springparrot wrote:I like your idea better!Ilph wrote:It's just a way to have all the students show you that they're ready and to focus on the task at hand.springparrot wrote:Guess I"m not familar with the touch your head, etc., but WooHoo on teaching them FinsIlph wrote:For those of you who don't know, I'm a third grade teacher, and I got tired of the old, "touch your head/shoulders/nose when you're ready" and taught my kids "fins up if you're ready." They sound like some clever kids, with that left and right swaying on the spur of the moment.Ilph wrote:It's just a way to have all the students show you that they're ready and to focus on the task at hand.springparrot wrote:Guess I"m not familar with the touch your head, etc., but WooHoo on teaching them FinsIlph wrote:For those of you who don't know, I'm a third grade teacher, and I got tired of the old, "touch your head/shoulders/nose when you're ready" and taught my kids "fins up if you're ready." Re: Been meaning to tell you guys this
I just finished my first week. It went really well. And to see 24 kids just randomly doing fins back and forth was hilarious. I had to tell you guys because no one else would've really gotten it.Brown Eyed Girl wrote:Hey, I understood that!Midnight Flyer wrote: Me too! I think I'll work it into the flight deck! I too am a teacher (Physical Education) and I had just gone to a seminar about getting students attention and one of the things they did was the Head, Shoulders, etc. and I immediately thought of putting the fins up instead. I only get the privilege of having the kids run around with the Fins Up. I haven't tried it yet, but I will let you know how it goes to see about 45 elementary students running around a gym with FINS HIGH!!
PHINS UP!
