(note that the video should open WMP)
That report is from Commons st., about half a city block west of Canal St. in the oposite direction of the French Quarter. Mville is about 3/4 of a mile from there where it is still dry.

Oh. OK. Good. I haven't been to NO in 17 years and can only remember a few things - all of which I assume will stay as memories never to passed onto my children as experiences.

Don't say that. While the devastation their is unfathomable I'm sure that the good hearted strong willed people of NOLA will pull through, and rebuild their lives and community. Not to mention it looks as if the damage in the quarter will be less severe than other parts of the city. The quarter only makes up about 3 square miles of the entire city. I did just learn that half of Commanders Palace was destroyed and a wall at Antoines in the Quarter collapsed onto Royal St.

From what I've been seeing on TV & the web, it looks like much else of the area is destroyed. Also, in no way did I mean that as a slight against anyone. It just seems that this is going to be espescially difficult to recover from. I'm sure some businesses/people will have to totally rebuild, even if they return to a standing structure. There's no telling what damage lies unseen. Things there will return to normal - I don't doubt that - but I think much of what we remember from NO may not be there (or the same) when return next.

Don't worry it wasn't taken as a slight, we all know you would mean no ill will.

the 1st pictures i saw The french Quaters was dry. The paper even said it survived. Also people were drinking at one of the bars according to the article. But, the latest pictures is it's flooded and i heard one news cast say the french quaters is heavely damaged and not what it use to be.

Until thet can get rid of the water and debris and actually get into these areas. We won't know, right know every thing is speculation.

just got a news flash from cnn------NOLA mayor reports that there are hundreds maybe thousands of deaths in the city!!!

Hi everyone. I posted on another thread, but just saw this one so I thought I'd give you some info...Margaritaville is under some water, but nobody has been able to get in there and assess the damage yet, what we are most worried about is our staff- we have only made contact (directly or indirectly) with about 20 members of our Margaritaville family- so thoughts and prayers sent their way would mean so much...there's also a link on the margaritaville website for members of our team to check in, so if anyone is able to get in touch with anyone from Margaritaville - NOLA please let them know about it.

Thank you - keep those PHINS up!
