Anybody bought land in the islands?
I see over an acre on St. Croix close to civilization for only 100K. Drop in the bucket for what Island life would be. $175/ft to build, but still, pennies.

I read that Johnny Depp bought an island in the Bahamas...dang why can't I be talented?
...or at least hit the lotto?
My best friend was telling me just the other day that he bumped into an old friend who recently bought a small island in the keys with a small solar powered house.
I told him to stay in contact with the guy, reel him in a little...and then hit him with
"Hey can I visit when I'm down there?............and bring a friend?"

My best friend owns a very nice house in Honolulu. Guess where I stay every time I go back.
I did buy a condominium there in 1982-two bedrooms, one bathroom, decent size living room & kitchen, walk-in closet in the master bedroom, and an outdoor lanai. All that for $64,000.00. It was in the concrete jungle section of Honolulu known as Salt Lake. I wonder what it would cost today.

I see no qualifiers as to location of said island. I already live on an island.SweetMelissa wrote:I would just like to say right now, that anyone who buys land on an island, I will gladly go live with them under any circumstances. Thank you, have your people call my people.

I thought about doing just that on Sanibel island.... still might..Virgin_(Island)_Girl wrote:I lived on St. Thomas for three years, many years ago.
I'm considering going back to visit a few old friends who are still there. It's cheaper to visit people who already live there than to own a place yourself.
You could consider buying a condo and putting it into a vacation rental program.

Would be just LAND for now. Build eventually. Would be 2nd home. Need a place stateside to flee to when the islands get washed over by hurricanes. Besides, I don't want to lay out $500K for a beach side house when I still need to have a $600K house here.Virgin_(Island)_Girl wrote:I lived on St. Thomas for three years, many years ago.

Be warned: Building in the Virgin Islands requires lots of patience. If you're not there to oversee what's going on, you may want to consider buying something already built.
If you do decide to build, good luck!
