We were just discussing this today and figured he would play City of New Orleans, Biloxi, or Trying to Reason With Hurricane Season at the Wrigley shows.

I was in Chicago the last time he sang "City of New Orlenas (2001 I think) and it was great. No one here has a MP3 of that do they? I would love to add that to my iPod for the long drive to Chicago this weekend.

Ok so let me be the jerk again...lol. i have no doubt Jimmy will play one of the songs you have mentioned. Hopefully and much more importantly, Jimmy the liberal will donate a large amount of money to the situation. Frankly I hope all of us have done so.

specks wrote:I think he should do "What it Means to Miss New Orleans" at least I think thats its name. He did it at the Coastal Confessions show. And considering the circumstances it would be ok for him to read the words again. It was a beautiful song.
Nice call!

I thought his choice of the Louis Armstrong song Do You Know What It Means To Miss New Orleans was beautiful.

This version of Gulf Coast Highway of with JB & Evangeline will bring tears to your eyes.

Definitely worth a listen.

well after all the differences of opinion on what should happen last night, i think we all knew deep down that jimmy would handle it correctly.

I do have to admit that i thought opening with biloxi would have been a great choice and was bummed when i heard the standard "piece of work", but now that i look back on the show....well done jimmy. You brought us back to what it means to be PHANS. You showed us that the show must go on, showed compassion to the people, and acknoweldge everyone can help out....and then let the party begin.....but, you brought us back down to earth with your closing......i can't think of a more touching tribute to them....well done...it was one of those times that your just proud to be a phan

I was fortunate to have been able to live in the New Orleans area (Slidell actually) from 1990 through 1992. When I was offered a job there, the thought of moving to somewhere to live that I knew little about, only from a couple of brief visits, was disconcerting. I was recently remarried and had to leave my new family and travel to New Orleans by myself to start work.

The first Saturday, I ventured east of New Orleans on I-10 and headed for the Biloxi - Gulfport area. I had only witnessed this area once, in the middle of the night from the backseat of a Greyhound bus, enroute from New Orleans to Mobile. For a midwestern boy, I was in strange territory. I had a friend in Chicago who lived right across the street from Wrigley Field and who was a huge Jimmy fan. I had "CILCIA" on a tape (remember tape?) and as soon as I arrived in Biloxi I popped the tape in and listened to "Biloxi". I found a pay phone with a sufficiently long cord that I could call him from my car just so I could play the song for him. Unfortunately my grand idea was foiled when he was not home to answer the phone. But there was something comforting to a stranger in a new land by having that tape and that particular song with me.

I have a great affection for the area and the wonderful people. I have friends there from whom I have not heard a word as of yet. I am sitting here typing with tears welling up in my eyes for everyone who is now suffering and displaced by this horrible event. There could be no greater tribute to these people than to have Jimmy scrap his regular show and for him to do many if not all of the suggestions listed here. "Gulf Coast Highway" will bring tears to your eyes, particularly if you have ever driven Highway 90 and now you can put the song in perspective with the present events.

The survivors will rebuild but we need to support them in any and every way that we can. Do what you can and pray for them. We're all here for the music but these people have very little music in their lives today. Those of us untouched by the physical destruction need to be touched in our hearts.
