Kill it or Spare it

Post by buffettbride »

Last night a mouse ran into our living room from the open garage door. Hubby and I spent a good 30-45 minutes chasing this mouse around until we finally had it cornered. When we trapped him, hubby had him by his tail--underneath a hockey stick. He was just gonna play mousie-ping-pong and end it for the little guy, but I figured since we captured it alive the 'lil booger deserved a chance.

Soooo, I scooped him up in a box and drove him several blocks to a wildlife refuge near our house. Now, he's probably already owl food, but at least he got a fighting chance instead of facing death-by-hockey stick.

What would you have done?

One thought would have been to feed it to our snake, but it's not wise to feed pets with field animals because of potential diseases. Same with making it a pet.

He's been giving me a hard time all freakin' day about sparing the mouse. Meanwhile, Victoria, whose favorite book is Despereaux, thinks I'm a hero!!

If it's outside, it lives. Ok, unless it's any kind of bee. :o  But it comes into my home? Bye, Bye.

Sorry, had to vote to kill it! It's the cycle of life! Maybe it would have taught his friends that were watching through the windows not to come into your house and mess around!

Funny thing is he thought he was home free! He was munching a rebel fruit loop behind the trash can when we trapped him.

  Now, see, maybe his friends and family would have considered it as you helping out their gene pool then!

I wouldn't kill a mouse... I'd throw him outside and get rid of whatever brought lured him in.

Now, a rat or a spider.... TOAST :x :x :o

NO... I don't mean I'd serve them on toast

He was seriously thinking about it, but we wouldn't want to transfer any diseases from the mouse to the snake.

Plus, mousie was small, snakie big. It would have been like us eating 1 kernel of popcorn.

Don't get a lot of rats 'round these parts.

I'm about 50/50 with spiders. Usually I'll save 'em if Victoria's looking. If she's not around I'll have hubby smush it.

Thanks Mal my wonderful 2 year old american made POS died on me and I had to wait 2 hours to get it towed to the dealer. They haven't a clue what is wrong with it but it burned a quarter tank of gas for a 25 mile trip this morning. I just filled up at 2.29 a gallon too

I'd much rather have the mouse in the house than the snake!

Ewww I don't know how you can stand having that thing in the house..guess I'm just not a snake fan.....

I would go for one of those Have-a-heart mouse traps. I think you did the right thing. At least it had a chance.
