He did it as a tribute to former Reefer and Chicago legend Steve Goodman. As far as tailgating, it was just different, inside neighborhood bars rather than a parking lot. No big deal...I'd take a Wrigley show anyday over Tweeter/New World in Tinley Park. Alpine is a special place though...some great tailgating memories. Ultimately, for me, it's the show that counts...
Contrary to what many people think...Steve Goodman was never a Coral Reefer
Well, he was listed as one on both White Sport Coat and A1A...

Sunday may have been the best I have seen because it was so apparent what a great time he was having and how much this meant to him. Sunday night we were in the upper deck-3rd from the last row and the sound was clear, and today we were on the field, and the sound was also great!

I have done Alpine, and while I enjoy it, the partying beforehand just is not the most important thing to me-the concert that I pay money for is; seeing Jimmy Buffett is.

Frankly I have had some experiences at Alpine that were less than pleasant with some fans that were completely out of control and would be careful about how I do Alpine in the future.

This was a different sort of party and I thought it was a great time!
Where in the upper deck were you? We were in the upper deck and struggled a bit with the sound... it may have been the excessive margaritas, though...

We were up in the right field deck..

Nevertheless, we had a fantastic time. The show just flew by.

We were 3 rows from the top, between 3rd base and home plate.

Speaking of the security on the field on Monday, all of the people were great! They did an excellent job of keeping people without field tickets off of the field. I spoke with a couple of the security people and they were unfailingly polite and helpful. I asked about arrests on Sunday and one fellow confirmed they had a couple of fights that resulted in arrests. One other notable arrest came in the men's room as a couple were "getting it on" in front of everyone in the facility. Jimmy always mentions "keets" being conceived at his shows so it really DOES happen.

As a frequent reader but only recent contributor to this discussion board, I am constantly amazed by the number of people that complain about prices, whether it be of brokered tickets or beer or sausages; or long lines for restrooms or refreshments.

JB said it several times during both shows. Playing WF was a longtime dream of his. Being there was being a part of history, not only of the storied ballyard, but of the troubadour himself. They are two days that will live forever in his memory, and thousands of others. It was amazing to see how geeked up he was from the first chord on Sunday, to his momentary steel-faced, trying not to get choked up beginning of "Banana Republics", to him sitting where it all started, the last row of the right field bleachers, where he and Goodman would waste away summer afternoons watching the Cubs, just like so many of us have over the years. Then to follow it up with the "day game" yesterday, another great show...I just don't see how anyone can be surprised at $7 beers or the fact that fifty other people need to take a leak at the same time you do. I've never NOT seen a line for beer or the restroom at the World Tweeter Tinley Arena of Horrible Acoustics, or the one time I visited Alpine, for that matter.

All in all, it was a great weekend. Has anyone heard if it will become a CD or DVD?

I was at both shows this weekend, they were excellent. We had field on Sunday night and upper deck on Monday. I am really happy to have been a part of that historic show, it was definitely one for the memory books.

That being said, i probably would not want to go back to a Wrigley show (but I still will if that is all he does ;) I just like the Alpine venue so much better. The lot and pre show is much easier at alpine in my opinion...but Alpine was my first buffett show so I might just be partial for sentimental reasons.

The entire week leading up to the show I was perplexed about what we where going to do in lieu of tailgating. We ended up with a table on the sidewalk outside at Bernie’s on the corner of Clark and Sheffield both days and had a great time with all of the other Parrotheads. The shows however made up for any lack of tailgating. Both shows where absolutely incredible. These where my 16th and 17th shows and where the two best I have seen hands down. The City of New Orleans encore from the Bleachers Sunday night still gives me goose bumps when I think of it.

Thank you Jimmy for the best Labor Day weekend ever!

Actually I think you where. We where playing Euchre at a table and you where standing at the railing next to our table. I glanced down and saw a BN name tag which I think was yours, however before our game ended and I could say hi you where gone. I promise not to be so antisocial next time.

I remember you, then! Too bad you didn't say HI....I called a friend who, who, as it turns out, was inside the beer garden at Bernies! So we went inside. CoolBlueSwing was with me at the time, but if we had known it was you, you could have met about 20 BNers!

I just got back to South Carolina from Chicago from both shows and i must say it was well worth the cost. Seeing my 16th and 17th Buffett shows at Wrigley will probably always be the best shows I have ever attended. I see all the complaining about sound and cost and whatever else, but from a pure standpoint of once in a lifetime things......this ranks up there. And standing in right field yesterday afternoon on the field for the show was absolutely amazing..........now off to CVS to get the pictures developed.

By the way, I thought the Wrigley staff was excellent on Sunday! Everyone I encountered was very friendly and personable, even when they were continually telling some of us to stop dancing in the aisles, or to get back to our seats! :o   (people were standing in front of ours, so we just relocated to empties... a couple times... before finding the approved dancefloor area to the right of the soundstage for the remainder of the show.) I honestly hope we weren't too annoying to anyone - everyone seemed to take it with a grain of salt!!

I think they did a top notch job at crowd control - at least from what I saw! :D

Sunday was my first Buffett show and Monday was my second (thanks to Chris from this board who we traded some of our extra Monday tickets for Sunday tickets!) buffett show. All I can say is AMAZING! What an awesome experience! We got to see JImmy when he arrived in his black lincoln towncar on Sunday.....that was a treat for a new parrothead like myself! We sat up in the stand for both shows. Would have loved to have had field tickets but either way, it was still a life changing experience. Only 46 days until my 3rd show in VEGAS!

Thanks Jimmy for making it so much more than I thought it would be!

These are some things I really enjoy hearing. Im sorry I had to yell at so many of you about dancing in the isles and thanks to all of you who started dancing with me even though I yelled at you all night. We had a lot of PD help with ejections and the crowd was overall well especialy on the field, not to much of a problem there. I think we only had a few people that made it over the brick wall, but our security was so tight, theres no way they made it past the first sections. People asked me why they seemed to have to show their tickets every 10 seconds or so in the center sections in front of the stage. I asked them if they really wanted someone who sitting a hundred rows behind you dancing in your 10th row seat??? Tiki what section were you in? On monday that area in the infield next to the boxes was prime dancing area, I told people to go there if they wanted to dance their hearts out, or else get back in your row!!! lol Hopefully a few years from now we will get to do something sorta like this. But for now, its back to baseball for me...

Sunday - Section H, row 12 for most of the 1st set... 2nd set, we bounced around the center sections... 8)

And I wish we would have stayed in the fairly long right field port-o-potty lines, instead of thinking inside would be shorter... oh well, hindsight is 20/20.

I'm just so glad Jimmy could have one of his dreams come true...certainly earned and well-deserved...and it was so incredibly special to be a part of it...just wonderful.

Haven't seen mention of this yet...I was on the field further forward on Monday so I missed it, but apparently there was a huge conga line going around the infield at one point...how's that for priceless!!

Oh, and what a show for a DVD...complete with blimp shots!?!?!?! :P

My fiance, scubabarb (in the avatar with me) started the conga line monday. We made it all over the infield  Even saw some security staff get in line. I hope Jimmy saw it and I hope it makes the dvd!
