I remember seeing this mentioned, but the "other" coffee table thread reminded me of it. I think this would be an awesome addition to all of our coffee tables, but I wonder if it would be possible?
(It stemmed from a pleasant discussion about www.buffettremasters.com - please, try to keep the recurring sarcasm out of this thread. Thanks!)

Instead of petitioning for a re-release of the albums, you'd have better luck getting permission to reprint the original work in books.
That could actually be an interesting coffee table book. I'd much rather see something like that. I can't remember the last time I actually bought a cd, but I'd buy that.
I agree or a Series of T-shirts posters or prints..

I don't see why it wouldn't. A nice oversized hard cover, glossy pages, nice centered pics of the covers and any other artwork that went along with it, and some complementary print on album name, short history, etc. I'd definitely buy that. I brought that up in discussion with some friends a while back and they loved the idea too.
I wonder if that's been thrown around at all as a real idea?
Cooking is like love. It should be entered into with abandon or not at all..

I don't know, but I would be very excited if it happened!

How about a big coffee table book of the old art and pics with remastered CDs in the back...(sort of like A Salty Piece of Land)......I'd sure buy that one!!!

I wonder how much something like that would go for? Original artwork, liner notes, remastered CDs, it would probably look like the Encyclopedia Brittanica by time it was published.

really I was being serious I would not have use for a Coffee table book
But would love T shirts or prints to enjoy all the time..
While I think most people would like a coffee table book
I think another entire group would enjoy the t-shirts and prints too..

I prefer the term, "japery"; but that actually sounds like a better idea. I'd even buy a coffee table for that.
*sigh*… Well, I’m terribly sorry, but I must disagree. Sure, a book like that would be a neat thing to have for any artist, and I’m not against that… But the fact that it’s being discussed to replace CD remasters… No, not good…
Many people, surprisingly after all this time, are missing the point that the artwork restoration isn’t the only factor involved when battling to get Buffett’s CDs remastered. The sound quality on the CDs is simply not from the original masters, as if they were they would sound so much better. We have no idea what we’re missing… Actually, listening to the cuts on MMIM you can get a little “preview”…
Good idea, but no, I don’t think it should replace remasters. I still want to see those packages adapted into small CD jewel cases, as I’ve said thousands of times before, it’s been done so many times since the early 80s, and there’s no reason it can’t be done with Jimmy’s works. The artwork and liner notes were released WITH the recordings all those years ago, and it should be no different today. I strongly believe whatever the artist and art directors intended to accompany the recording should in all pressings.
But don’t get me wrong, a book like that sounds awesome, so the non-vinyl owners could see everything in it’s original form, as in the CD inserts everything would be sized down and the text would be moved to alternate places throughout the booklet for the purpose of being able to read everything.

Parrot Monkey, trust me, I'm not missing the point... I understand all you are striving for, and I wish you all the best with it. It's just not something I care about, nor would I see myself buying all of the remasters. But that's just me. However, I would be happy as a clam if the artwork and liner notes were available in book form, and / or on t-shirts or posters. That, I would spend money on! Until then, I have the LP's to revert back to should I so desire.

It would be kinda hard to do that.. what with all the discussion about it...

I agree. I have the CDs already, as far as I'm concerned there's no point in buying all 30 (or however many there are) of them again. Besides, I like the music the way it sounds now, warts and all. After all, JB isn't the New York Philharmonic.
I think that there's a much better market for items like posters, t-shirts, and basically anything that can and will wear out. CD's are too durable which limits the number of people who would be buying them. Between my brother and myself, we have nearly all of JB's albums. There is no way that we would be able to start the collection over just so that the sound is marginally improved. I think is the case for most people.
Don't get me wrong, it's a good idea, and, given the extremely loyal Phan-base, there is definitely some type of market for it. However, with what seems to be the ever-relaxed pace of the already-promised releases (cd or DVD) then I think that this remaster idea might be too big of a project to undertake.
"Oh all the money that e'er I spent, I spent it in good company.
And all the harm that I ever did, Alas it was to none but me.
And since it falls, unto my lot, that I should rise and you should not
I'll gently rise and I'll softly call, 'Goodnight and Joy be with you all.'"

Am I the only one who wouldn't care if all CDs came in plain brown paper wrappers with the album name written in crayon? As long as music comes out of my stereo when I put the disc in, I'm happy. If I wanted to read stuff and look at pictures, I'd have bought a magazine instead.
