Any Marathon Runners Out There??

Hi!
I thought I'd see if any of my fellow BNer's have run a marathon before. I'm doing my first on October 9th... and I'd love some advice from people who have run one before!
I was orginally part of a 26-week training program, but due to an injury, I am now on the 12 week track.
We have a 21.5 mile "benchmark" run this weekend and I'm already nervous. I just loaded my new Ipod Nano with my favorite Buffett songs to keep me occupied, but, man, that is a lot of running!

I'm in training for my 1st marathon currently too

but it's not till next year...
I've always wanted to do one!
then I dislocated my knee in the Army-
I finally got it "scoped" 2 years ago
then I quit smoking last thanksgiving..
my biggest hurdle is running for distance now.
in the Army you ran 2 miles for time & that was it
my best time was 11:23 but I'd about die doing a 10K
anyways GOOD LUCK!!

I haven’t done a marathon yet but I run every day at least 5 mi. I run with my brother who does the marathons. Sometimes I go a bit crazy and do 10 miles or so, I also have a mp3 player with about 100 Buffett songs it just sets the pace an nice relaxing 8 minute mile. Good luck with your first marathon.

I also know Zuke runs marathons..
Let me know if you have any questions...I am no expert, but after 7 in the last 4 years...I know a few tips. Also, I run for Luekemia's Team in Training and we have awesome coaches who guide us.
I will be heading to Dublin in October to do my 8th...

Thanks for the offer to help Kitty!
I did my 21 mile benchmark run yesterday and did quite well through 18... then I was a bit bored and tired. I made it to 21, and I have a fun story.
Our Benchmark began and ended at the Portland Rose Garden... where Buffett tickets went on sale at 10:00 a.m. So that was my motivation to finish -- better tickets! I crossed the finish line, ran up some steps, around a fountain, up a few more step and went straight to the box office!
A great reward after a long run! I'm hoping that now that I am "tapering" off that I'll store more energy and the run will feel a bit better. It wasn't bad, just long.
Do you find that tapering does help you???
