Rule of thumb for raw oysters is to only eat them in months that have an R in them....Sam wrote: It is September ...Oysters are getting good ( Yeah I know you can eat them year round )
A person that sold them, told me the rule of thumb came about before modern refrigeration, oysters being oysters tend to spoil quickly and no way to transport them or keep them safe for consumption.....ToplessRideFL wrote:Rule of thumb for raw oysters is to only eat them in months that have an R in them....Sam wrote: It is September ...Oysters are getting good ( Yeah I know you can eat them year round )Water is colder and less chance of them being spoiled before shucking!
I can't wait.... I love raw oysters!!! And most fish... broiled, baked, grilled, fried.... just not in stick form! Yuk!!!
I thought the rule was that you could only drink gin & tonic in a month that doesn't have an "R" in it.ToplessRideFL wrote:Rule of thumb for raw oysters is to only eat them in months that have an R in them....Water is colder and less chance of them being spoiled before shucking
No its not included on this thread...although oysters were brought up... Maybe Tiki will start another on shell fish!buffettbride wrote:I haven't read back. Have we discussed shellfish yet?
I don't eat a lot of fish 'cause hubby won't touch it, but I LOVE lobster and crab legs. Kinda middle of the road on shrimp because it all depends how it's prepared.
Gin & tonic is a summer drink, the only months without R's are May, June, July & August.ToplessRideFL wrote:Summer mths? Hmmm and the theory behind that would be?LIPH wrote: I thought the rule was that you could only drink gin & tonic in a month that doesn't have an "R" in it.

The Brits invented Gin, and provide especially-good mosquito targets. Mosquitos fly in summer. Gin makes you care less about the itching. Quinine in the tonic water helps with the malaria.ToplessRideFL wrote:Summer mths?
