Wow, definitely struck a chord in me. Any relief donations going for the animals?

That was so sad. One of my first thoughts when the hurricane hit was all the dogs. I couldn't imagine loosing my dog like that.

So sad...but remember..dogs are survivors...In disasters like this they have a better chance of survival than their human counterparts. From all the bad evacuee stories I have heard lately, I almost feel worse for the pets than their owners...call me c cold hearted if you must :-? ...god I love fluffy pets
All I need are some tasty waves, a cool buzz & i'm fine

I did the same thing. . :( But I want to believe. .that the people making this increadibly sad documentary. . saved some of these puppies!

I think the most disturbing thing I read Post Katrina. . was this guy they intererviewed who said. ."I guess I'll go back in a few days to see if I have a house. . and a cat." :o

I just don't understand. . leaving without your pet. :( Call me cold hearted too. . but there is no excuse.

There is a Special coming on Animal Planet tonight Friday 16 Sept at 9:00PM EST (I THINK IT IS) on Katrina and pets....

I have not watched the link above as of yet... but one thing I saw during the coverrage.... was a guy that was told to evacuate and he had to get on a bus to Huston, sitting there holding his dog, but he could not take his dog on the bus with him.....there was a guy sitting talking with him and trying to console him....I think it was the reporter that had been interviewing the guy .... came up to them and and told the guy that either he or his station, had made arrangements for the dog to be taken to Baton Rouge, I think it was, maybe it was elsewhere.... where a family would take care of his dog for him, until the guy returned or other arrangements could be made to reunite them..... something like that. Was very heart wrenching and heart warming.

The thing is that while I see where they are coming from that with hotels being so scarse, they want to take anything they can get, even if they have to sacrifice their pets security, but if it was me, I would keep driving until I found a hotel that took pets.

I had to close the original link when i saw the oil covered dog. :(

I think I love you!!

hell, I feel guilty leaving my pets and going on vacation...and our dog stays with my mom and our cat has many people who visit him throughout the day...or we get a friend to pet sit in our home...in fact, I can't take the sad eyes I get when I leave for work in the morning.

I am getting angrier and angrier every time I hear about this...it was a flood, not a f**king tsunami...there was no reason to leave behind a part of the family like that...there was plenty of time to evacuate or make other arrangements...there were advance warnings...I understand that not everyone had transportation, but other arrangements could have been made...no one will ever convince me otherwise

on a more positive note, I do believe that more animals were taken with their families then left behind...and that there are millions of people who are helping those left behind (either physically or via donations)
