Please help us resolve a discussion at work...

Was Journey an 80's hair band? I say no, although they probably influenced the era...I don't think they take the hair-band cake.

There's a band called Infinity www.infinity2k.com , that covers what I consider 80's hair bands... including Journey. (obviously)

Didn't all rock bands have big hair then?

Much like Godfather 3 and the Dukes of Hazzard movie, Journey never existed. Please don't try to tell me differently.

Journey predated the explosion of hairspray-fueled faux-metal groups. They set a precedent with wailing guitars and sappy ballads, but they are not in the same category as bands like Poison, Cinderella, L.A. Guns, and the like.

That's what I'm talkin' about. I think they helped set the tone for 80's rock, but I do not consider them a hair band.

Especially since they never existed.

Didnt Journey start playing in 1978-79? I remember being in late HS or early college.... if that is the case.... it makes them a seventies band ......

I wouldnt call them a hair band... IMO hair band = metal

Journey was around since the early 70's. They didn't get put on the map until Steve Perry showed up in like 1977-78.

And they were definitely not an 80's hairband.

No, they just sukked... and Steve Perry might be the most laugh-inducing rock band front man EVER!

Wasn't Oh Sherry from a Steve Perry solo album, not Journey?

I don't know if I'd go that far.
