Well, I just got back from my week long trip down in southern Florida. I spent 3 days in Port St. Lucie/Jensen Beach, and then I drove down 1 and went to Key West for a few days. I love that place! Of course, I ate and drank at Margaritaville, participated on Tim's Trails of Margaritaville Tour, and ate at Crabby Dick's, AND ate some great local Key Lime Pie, visited Smather's Beach a few times, but the highlight of the whole trip was that last night at Captain Tony's Saloon.
I didn't think that I would get the chance to meet him, but I got to sit down and chat with ol' Tony for a good half hour. Yeah, I got his autograph on a T-shirt and picture, but it was his stories that amazed me so. He told of great times with Jimmy, ghosts in the bar and where he saw them, and he could just not stop talking about hookers..ha ha ha. It was just a great time sitting there and drinking a Corona with the Captain (he was drinking a club soda he said). I told him to tell Jimmy that I, Jake Foutz, said hi.....you think he will remember? I will definately go back to Key West...such a great time.

Sunset Beach is my Margaritaville. Where there is endless beach, no time, and sunshine that seems to last forever. I know that Someday I Will.....Someday.

glad you had an awesome time---Capt. Tony's is my favorite place in Key West. Last two times I was there I haven't even gone into Margartaville for drinks--head right over to Capt. Tony's. He is awesome, too. He is so personable which I think is amazing for being as "famous" as he is. But I have also noticed that people don't swarm him either. That's what is so cool.
Did you toss a quarter into the Grouper's mouth while you were there? That is one of my traditions! Funny to watch other tourists try it out once they see you standing under it tossing quarters into the sky!

Nice story. Where in Port St. Lucie where you? I have a friend who lives in St. Lucie.SouthernSeas wrote:Well, I just got back from my week long trip down in southern Florida. If you want an experience, go to a Jimmy Buffett concert.
Experience is something you don't get until just after you need it.
Life is short, live long!!
I'd rather be a wiseass than a dumbass.

I was down there in May and hung out with the Captain myself. Got an autograph, took some pictures. It was great! My only complaint is that I washed my autographed T-shirt and it shrunk. I can't wear it now.
Another neat place was this little Tiki bar behind the Sands Inn Beach club..about a block or two from Louie's Back Yard. The bartender was a traveling bartender named Mike (looked like Santa Clause). Every year he moves on to work at a new bar. He had been in Alaska and from Key West was heading to Costa Rica. It was a neat little bar. Girls walking around topless, cold drinks, sand, you could get up from your chair and jump in the ocean. Man I need to go back soon....

"At a moment like this, I can't help but wonder...what would Jimmy Buffett do?"

My friend is a golf pro at the PGA village down in Port St. Lucie. I always stay at his place off US1 when I go down. He lives by Spanish Lakes and Prima Vista. It is always a great time especially when you can stay at your friends' on vacation.
