INXS is just a rip off of a great band from the 60's and 70's "The Boomtown Rats" (Bob Geldof) INXS copied their style, their beat, everything short of covering their songs. When Geldof disbanned the Boomtown Rats, INXS stepped in and tried to pick up where the Rats left off. Yes, INXS put out some great tunes, and milked the MTV "Look" to the hilt. Geldof and the Boomtown Rats where a bit too ugly for MTV in the early days. But in the end the Boomtown Rats where better musicians, better song writers, Geldof got the girl, and the lead singer of INXS offed himself.
This reality show is a feable attempt to rescue a band well past it's prime. Their ability as Musicians, their song writing ability, and their look just won't cut it in todays market. they look like they should be auditioning for some musical remake of the 3 muskateers.
Any more deep thoughts on, say, Thompson Twins?

I've watched Rock Star all summer. I like the rock songs they pick for the covers and I like hearing the INXS songs on elimination night.
I've loved INXS since Shabooh Shoobah, and thought this might be a little cheesey too. But I've gotten over that.
My take is that JD is the obvious replacement for Hutchence. He sounds most like him and Pretty Vegas sounds like a classic INXS song.
Marty is the choice to "modernize" their sound. Trees is a pretty good song, they seem to like him and he has more of a modern edge.
MIG...he's an Aussie.
So if the band wants to recreate their old sound, they'll pick JD and try to keep him under control. (But that seems more like Eddie and the Cruisers playing Atlantic City to me).
If they want to take a shot at the next generation and eventually become Marty's back up band, they'll pick Marty.
If they want to stay in Australia, they'll pick Mig.
I can't wait to see who they'll pick. I hope Jimmy is off stage by 10pm!

People actually watch this????
I don't mean to be disparaging or anything, but doesn't it seem just a little silly. I mean - who the heck doesn't know what the name of the show is? Then why do they have to say the band name every time they "vote someone off"?

Read the first reply in this forum. My now ex-girlfriend used to watch. In a small New York City apartment, there is no escaping it. I tried to sit in the other room, surf the net, go buy groceries, anything. But you still HEAR it. Plus, I had an agreement with her to give it one episode. I didn't make it through the whole thing without getting up to try to distract myself.phtnt wrote:how do you know that they do if you don't watch?mings wrote:People actually watch this????

I liked him mainly because he emptied a big ol bag of money in the crowd! Nice! Even assuming they were singles, he bought a few folks some beers - and I can be bought!Lightning Bolt wrote:J.D. , to me, seemed like the most "natural" to take over this "role"
Oh, and after seeing the show last week, when I saw an INXS Greatest Hits cd for $9 at Sam's Club, I bought it!
Was anyone else at the 1986ish Summerfest INXS downpour?

That is pretty funny! He does remind me of Eddie and the Cruisers. And, yes, I liked them too. Pretty cool consolation prize for him and his band to open for INXS on their world tour!iuparrothead wrote:Right choice in the end... J.D. is a great front man for that band!
I'm much happier with Marty simply getting exposure so he can put himself and his own band, The Lovehammers, on a national stage!

Let's see here, Geldof got his girl back, the Boomtown Rats were better musicians, the lead singer of INXS offed himself (obviously you didn't get the pun - perhaps I should have said jerked himself to death), INXS milked the MTV "look" to the hilt, and they look like the 3 muskateers. So where are the inaccuracies? As for CA teachers, we still have the toughest standard of education and testing in order to obtain a credential in the USA, that is why we have one of very few state credentials that is accepted in all 50 states.rednekkPH wrote:Cut him a break, research has never been one of his strong points.
