High School Football

Post by jonesbeach10 »

Is high school football a big thing where you live?

It's not really by me.

This weekend will be the only weekend the stands really fill, and that's because it's homecoming.

Sometimes more than others,
we see who and what and where we are,
I'm just a one man band,
With my feet in the sand,
Tonight I just need my guitar

Not so much here.

... but at this time last week, Penny and I had driven 700 miles to watch my alma mater play against a school that has been a rival since shortly after statehood. 8)

The school sells about 8,000 season tickets and the attendance usually runs 10-12,000.

I didn't attend the class reunion this year and won't be at homecoming, but I was there for B.A. vs. Jenks.

Yes & no. High school football in Philly has a fairly strong following - nothing like the following seen in Pittsburgh. However, tonight's game was just broadcast on the regional Comcast channel. It helps that my alma mater (and employer) is nationally ranked. Nearly every student from school - even those that live almost an hour away in Jersey - make it out for the games. So, in answer to your question, it's big.

I just came from the #1 and #2 in the state showdown. I graduated from Central, who was beat 17-14 by Maryville tonight. Yet another heartbraker, but we'll see them again in the playoffs.

I dunno if Washington takes their football as seriously as Texas did. All I know is that I'm glad my son is out of high school.

Very BIG!!!

Our high school team has been undefeated until last night. We played the former #1 team in the NATION last night and lost 13-10. We ALMOST tied it. It was not a home game, so we listened to it on the radio.

Most of our town probably drove the hour to the game. We have reserved seats for home games, and don't even have a kid in high school.

High school football's fairly big around here, but the school I went to was too small for football, so I never really got caught up in all of that.

Actually, No. I'm talking about Saint Joe's Prep, who beat Neshaminy by a score of 28-14 at Heartbreak Ridge. The Prep is currently ranked 25th in the country with the only loss being to Gillman of Baltimore (ranked 22nd) in OT.

Football on Long Island is big, but not HUGE like it is elsewhere. My high-school (as well as the high schools around here) has a capacity of only like 2000...no reserved seats, no need for tickets at all. We may see a Game of the Week on Telecare but it's usually a Catholic school game, not public.

Sometimes more than others,
we see who and what and where we are,

De La Salle Country. High School Football is very big, in the bay area the West Catholic Athletic League has dominated for decades. A few of the WCAL games have been known to back 10,000 + fans in the stands on a Friday night game.
