I don't think Todd has much at all in common with the present day Buffett. Probably more in common with the 1970's era Buffett. I think Todd has much more in common with John Prine, Billy Joe Shaver, Jerry Jeff Walker, Kris Kristofferson, and Guy Clark. All great songwriters and story tellers.

If anything I'd think he is more like the early 70s Buffett before Jimmy decided to live or die with primarily tropical themed music.

I think you guys summed it up best in your last few posts but I think Buffett still occasionally shows a knack for his 70s songcraft. Even when he doesn't, he seems to show the same good taste in songwriters that he did back in his 70s heyday. Can't say I totally agree about the tropical thing because that's always been a big part of his music but I agree, that's never been a part of Todd's appeal, it's his songwriting ability and clever-ass sense of humor. As for his storytellling abilities, on more than one occasion he's attributed that to something he learned from Buffett.

It's not just any performer that can hold an audience's attention for up to 18 minutes between songs (not that Todd goes on for that long before every song) but whatever gift it is, he has it.

I've heard the pineapple story before but not the "Margaritaville" one. Looking forward to reading the book.
