The average american weighs 150 lbs?

So we all know that the Coast Guard regulates how many people can be on a watercraft, but did you know how they come up with that number?
In reading an article on the recent boat capsize in NY, I found out that they estimate the average person to weigh 150 lbs.
I weigh 150 lbs, so I found this intriguing. I am 29 yr-old woman, who works out 3-4 x a week, a size 6 or 8. ALL of the men I know weigh more than me. Granted, I'm pretty sure on my boat it gave a person AND weight limit; but if commercial companies are going by the CG standards of max number of people.....
Do we really think the average american weighs 150 lbs??

Um, yeah... in fact, I would actually think it to be more.
I work with an obese population though so I'm biased.

I wonder when the coast guard last updated that figure??? And, I suppose that includes kids, so should they figure differently for a group that's entirely adults??

And they could play the song "Fat Bottom Girls" to advertise in the commercials.

150 pounds? really? Not in my area.
I weighed 150 back when I was like 12.
Thanks god that most of my friends are obese so it makes me look smaller...well every little bit counts
I find it funny that everyone knocks smokers so much when most of the country is a heart attack waiting to happen.
"I'm just a heart attack looking for a place to happen"

Gosh, Topless, when you do ever stop making sense?
I want to be you!
They must be figuring in the weight of children into the average...
I remember when I was average.

Yeah... I understand the point, but I highly doubt it. They would need to figure a children's average weight as well. It's very unlikely that they would include such a glaring discrepancy.
