Yes it would! And I'll be borrowing the ideas for my Brownies Troops! :D
Also easy for those of us on the East Coast: Christmas ornaments made from oyster shells - paint Santa hat and face and beard on it - long end of oyster shell already shaped like beard. They are pretty cool 8)
Do you have a picture of the oyster shell ornaments? I know someone who loves oysters and could help me out with this one (and you know who you are!) ;)

Can we send cookies? I don't know many of the rules on what we can and can't send. But holiday cookies would be a nice touch too maybe.

FYI - I confirmed with my gal pal whose hubby is over there right now and she said yes, we can send cookies as long as they are packaged good.

I sent some over for the buffettfest and didn't have any problems. I made sugar cookies and just wrapped and taped them up in saran wrap. :)

I'm sort of new around here so I have to ask, are you the cookie goddess because you love eating cookies or do you have a cookie business? Just curious. Love your cookie pics.....

This is not a pic of the typical red/white Santa that you can make, but it will give you an idea. And the suckers don't break!!

Neither :) Everyone loves my cooking/baking, so it seems I am always baking or cooking something, and cookies are the easiest, so that is what I am always sending to people to cheer them up, thank them, etc. Ironically, I don't have a particular sweet tooth for cookies, so I don't eat a lot of them.

If I remember right, Cookie Goddess was coined by Connie (prthd119) because I sent her some key lime white chocolate cookies and chocolate chip. I think Renee promoted me to kitchen goddess at one point too because of the recipes I submitted to the cookbook :)

Yes...the clock is ticking. I cannot seems to locate the deadline for holiday shipping...but I would bet it is around Thanksgiving. Of course we send it priority, but still we have 6 wks at best I would think.

Oh and guess what I found online AFTER completing 15 forms by hand? Online custom forms @ USPS.com!!!

Way to go Topless. I called the post office on Friday and they couldn't tell me much either. I wonder if the USO could help?

PILLOWCASES :D :D

These are very useful items for deployed soldiers - they can be used to brighten a bunk and bring a little bit of home. They are also handy places to store any number of things - including dirty laundry.

(a single 'standard size' pillowcase take one yard of fabric.... the way I make 'em anyway)

This quilting wench :wench: ALREADY has 50 made for troops. All from my stash of fun, bright (and many tropical) prints. I also have a group of quilters making additional pillow cases... who knows what the final count will be???

Where can I send them so that we can fill em up??

I would suggest collecting oddities like flip flop/tiki air fresheners. Coconut scented toiletries in travel sizes. gummy candy. curls of bright ribbon... plastic leis, spare cds, happy meal toys. old magazines (not to be sexist, but guy type magazines - geekly computer, sports, hotrod, hunting etc are GREAT!!) playing cards, dollar store silly toys, old paperbacks, beef jerky, batteries, anything microwavable. (This list compiled from many sources - deployed friends, mother of deployed soldiers, my own son, and other web sources.

we can always send 'snowman feces' (styrofoam peanuts) or 'reindeer poop' (boxes of raisins)

Who can you provide a home for fifty pillowcases???

that is PHANTASTIC cmpete! Have we found out if they can use these pillowcases? Last thing I had heard was that we were waiting on word back from Crash on whether or not we can send these. I don't want to bust anyone's enthusiasm. I just hate to see all that effort put forth and then we not be able to send them.
