What Buffett songs make you melancholy?

Post by parrothead216 »

:D :D [/color][/b]My wife were just listening to a CD that I burned for a friend to give her some Buffett to listen to and some of the songs make you really feel up and happy, but we wondered.........What Buffett songs make you sad?

Some of ours are

1) Banana Republics
2) When The Coast Is Clear
3) Changing Channels

What are yours?

ph216 - the 3 you list are 3 of my favorite 'ballad-type' songs. I would also add (as 'sad songs') these:
1) If the Phone Doesn't Ring, It's Me
2) Nobody Speaks to the Captain No More
3) Souvenirs
4) Captain & the Kid
5) Death of an Unpopular Poet
6) He went to Paris
For years I've been plugged into blenders and songs.

A Pirate Looks at 40
She's Going Out of My Mind

There are others but those two came to the top of my head.
If you want an experience, go to a Jimmy Buffett concert.

Experience is something you don't get until just after you need it.

Life is short, live long!!

Truth is, none of the songs I can think of are truly sad.

I think of APL@40, He Went to Paris, If the Phone, Lovely Cruise, and many others. True, there's some sadness in each, but each one is also a hopeful song.

Seems like the general attitude is that some bad things have happened, but it's gonna be ok, and all in all I've got nothing to complain about.

IMHO, that's one of the best things about JB - "one has to learn having fun is just smiling through the changes in lattitudes, changes in attitudes."

"Survive" only makes me sad because it sucks so bad. Hell, even Buffett referred to it as his "Billy Joel song" in the liner notes to Volcano. By the way, that's not meant as a slight to either fans of "Survive" or Billy Joel, it's just my personal opinon of the song.

Otherwise, his songs don't really make me melancholy but like others have said, perhaps a little introspective. Particularly: "Captain and the Kid" (will always remind me of my Dad, we had the song played at his funeral services) "That's What Living Is To Me" and "He Went to Paris" just for starters..
