..and people wonder why I prefer to refer to myself as just "a Jimmy Buffett fan".

For someone that admits you don't know much about Sammy's fans, I agree on how you could view it that way.
However, Sammys fans fervent ways take it to another level. The "Red Rockers" following is very similar in numbers and in their crazy pre-concert behavior. Just picture Heavy Metal fans, and Harley riders in Red and Tropical attire, and you have a Sammy fan. They are chaotic, and Sammy will douse you with tequila and margaritas if you sit in the first 10 rows, but when it comes to him tossing signed items back to the audience, his audience respects each other, and thei items make it back to the rightful owner.
A Sammy show is way more chaotic that a Buffett show. I love Jimmy Buffett, don't get me wrong, and I have seen him in the craziest venues, Great Woods, Irvine Meadows, Berkeley Greek Theatre, San Diego (Del Mar, Jack Murphy, Coors Amp) just to name a few..... 72 shows and counting..
All I am saying is that Sammy really really apreciates his fans, not just their money.
So I must respectfully disagree with your post.

The Cabo Anejo Reserve is actually a damn fine product... that coming from an admitted Tequila snob... The standard Cabo is about the same level as Patron, the cheaper stuff I serve to acquaintances, not the good stuff I serve to friends.

Again, my fandom is totally mispercieved (not sure if that's a word). One doesn't have to don the Hawaiian shirts and get p*** assed drunk (not that every PH does) to prove my fandom. I do have the getting lei'ed part down though.

@ the last part!
I question fandom - is that a word?

Just kidding!
For the record, to me, one doesn't need to do anything to prove their fandom - if it feels good, it is, and that's all that matters!

I've been called many things, but that's a first! I question whether I'm hard boiled, or raw however!
edit: raw? or uncooked? not sure what works best in this instance!
And I apologize - back to Sammy-Jimmy!

I don't know that Sammy's following equal's Jimmy's in numbers. His last few solo shows around here have been in theaters, not arenas.
That said, I LOVE his voice. I've been a huge VH fan since '82, and
"Cabo Wabo" is one of VH's best, from any era.

Big Sammy fan here, but I don't care one lick for the VH-era stuff that came out.
To me, that was just a big, fat sell-out.
I'm glad he's getting back to his roots...like doin' gigs with Ronnie Montrose

I hear that. Van Hagar never did much for me. A few good songs that were predominantly Sammy songs were cool, but his work with Montrose was extraordinary.

My wife went to college in Virginia and I guess he was huge there. I didn’t think the guy could sell out a club in San Francisco and I show up and there are twenty thousand people in an amphitheater and I am going, "What the f*** is going on here?"
In 1995, Sammy didn't know Jimmy Buffett could sell out a club? What was Sammy doing then? Even if you aren't a fan, you'd think he'd be aware of the sort of venues Jimmy would play
I don't know.
In 99 I got into Buffett's music and did not even know he was still on the music scene. I was one of those that thought he was a retired rich beach bum somewhere. Then I got online and found out he was touring and coming near me..The rest is history!!
btw I tried to get into Sammy's music a while back....just wasn't my bag....

I must respectfully disagree of your appraisal of his tequila. I've owned a home in Los Cabos long before Sammy "discovered" it and have enjoyed the National Drink (or National Liquor) for years. In my opinion, if you know true Tequila the Cabo Wabo brand is at best, bottom shelf. Mr. Hagar is in good company though, there are some other pricey tequilas out there that are simply not worth the money (as with any product be they wine, beer or cars).

You obviously have never read any of my posts on tequila, and you did not read this post accurately. I consider Patron to be my bottom shelf, as I won't go any lower than that. I put Sammys Cabo Wabo with Patron. I did say, however, that the Cabo Wabo Anejo "Reserve" was not a bad product at all. "a damn fine product". For a $40.00 per bottle price, the Anejo "Reserve" is better than most $40.00 bottles. As stated, I am an admitted tequila snob, and at any given time I have 18 - 20 of the best tequilas you have ever tasted on hand at my backyard Tiki Bar. By the way, most expensive is not always best.
