New York City

Post by jackiesic »

I'm thinking about going into New York City at the end of the month and go on over to LI for the Breeder's Cup. Any hotel recommendations for mid-town? I checked Priceline and a lot of them are over $300! Ouch!
TIA
Jackie

I got a rate of $132 on a 3-star hotel from Hotwire... It's in midtown somewhere, but the catch with hotwire is they don't tell you the name of the hotel till after you book it... (That was for Friday October, 28th)
Other than hotwire, I've got no advice for ya... Unless you want to stay with me in my very small studio apartment! :o :o

LOL! Thanks nycparrothead but there's <gulp> 7 of us.
My niece lives in lower Manhattan (Rector Place) and I could get a hotel for my friends but I hate to crash in on her and her SO.

Stay out on Long Island. Much cheaper and you can always take a train into the city. This Long Island girl knows all of the ins and outs.

Believe it or not, there are some cheap rates occasionally available at places like the Waldorf Astoria, or other "upscale" hotels. They cater to business travelers, so on the weekends they lower the rates to maximze their room usage. For nothing else, it's worth the call. This may also apply to the hotels in the Financial District - downtown Manhattan, because they too cater mainly to business people.

Otherwise, all I can tell you is to try a little off the beaten path. There's a Ramada Inn somewhere like 161 Lexington Ave (the same one referred to in The Terminal - but not the same building). It's in a safe neighborhood (Murray Hill) but it's not in the high profile areas of Times Square, Columbus Circle, Herald Square, etc. so it could be a little cheaper.

I disagree with Lisa. If you're coming to NYC for a weekend, time is valuable to you, and you probably want to play in the City as much as possible.

I'll try to think of some others for ya. Your neice may be able to suggest some places near her.
"Oh all the money that e'er I spent, I spent it in good company.
And all the harm that I ever did, Alas it was to none but me.
And since it falls, unto my lot, that I should rise and you should not
I'll gently rise and I'll softly call, 'Goodnight and Joy be with you all.'"
