Besides the SD Zoo, there is the SD Wild Animal Park (http://www.sandiegozoo.org/wap/index.html), but it's kind of a drive. Located right in SD is SD Maritime Museum which includes the Star of India and the America's Cup Museum (http://www.sdmaritime.com/). Scripps’s Institute (oceanography) has Birch Aquarium (http://www.aquarium.ucsd.edu/). Shelter Island is fun, as is Old Town (http://parks.ca.gov/default.asp?page_id=663). The SD Boat Show is usually in January. The Gaslamp Quarter (http://www.gaslamp.org) is worth a look and a cruise down Broadway is interesting. Balboa Park (http://www.balboapark.org/) and SeaWorld (http://www.4adventure.com/seaworld/ca/default.aspx)

This site includes the links above and as well as others: http://www.sandiego.gov/directories/vis ... tml#animal.

For shopping see: http://sandiego.about.com/cs/shopping/tp/top_malls.htm

Shopping-wise Seaport Village is a lot of fun: http://www.spvillage.com/

Hope that helps. Have fun! :D

It's just a phase, hon.
After a few dozen, you start to feel like you're choking down cardboard.

A REAL San Diego experience has you taking the 20 min. ferry ride across the S.D. bay (with the most memorable views of the bay, downtown, convention center, and aircraft carriers at North Island) to Coronado Island.
Rent some bicycles and pedal along the shoreline trail. Follow it about 1.5 mi. and you'll be at the south-facing Coronado Beach and some greatest white sand & surf. Continue south and you're looking at the awesome Hotel del Coronado. This is a classic hotel, and one the figureheads of San Diego. You can pedal right along the historic pool patio this time of year.

You've earned a break, now...

Cross the avenue in front of the hotel, and you'll find Miguel's Cocina.
Some of THE best mexican cuisine you can find on this side of the border. Their margaritas rock! :P
At this point, we're drunk and happy and howlin'. Ditch the bikes and call a cab to drive you over the huge, rolling Coronado Bay Bridge. You've just spent another great day in San Diego!!
:D :pirate:

If you are adventurous you could head to Tijuana. I would just stay away from the clubs that have both donkey and naked women on the same advertisement.

After you've fulfilled your InNOut urge, head on over to Pacific Beach and take in some of the "sights" along the boardwalk while sipping a couple of cold one's at La Heinna's, or on Garnet. Then mosey on down to Mission Beach, the birthplace of Over-The-Line (another thread entirely) and the home to The Beachcomber, The Pennent, The Coaster and several other fine beach drinking establishments. This is where you'll find the local beach lifestyle at its best. Most of all.....have fun in SAN DIEGO!
