Mold Anyone??

Post by buffettbride »

Aaaackkk!! We have mold!! We bought our house about 18 months ago and were just beginning some remodel work in the bathroom (yes, the ugly blue one) upstairs. In pulling up the linoleum, we found the subfloor near the tub almost completely rotted.

We had a mold specialist (I guess there's a few kinds) come in and take a look at it, and it's definitely mold.

The next step is to have an environmental specialist come in and test the air for the various types of mold to see if there's anything dangerous goin' on. The rotting has spread to the adjacent bathroom as well as the carpet tack strips that border the wall with our bedroom.

This damage probably existed before we bought the house and the previous owner who did all the work in the house himself, we suspect, tried to cover it up and denied knowledge of mold on the inspection checklist. That's a whole other angle we're trying to work, but for now, any experience with mold you could share would be greatly appreciated.

I was curious if anyone has ever fixed a mold problem in their house, and what exactly they did. It's a big 'ol pain in my booty if you ask me, but for now, the only bathroom in our house with a tub is out of commission and everyone is taking showers.

Maybe this will help you a bit, Mal.. I read up on it when we found we had some behind the wall of the shower. Hopefully the apt. complex cleaned it up well enough before the plastered over the hole they cut in the wall. :-?

So sorry Mal! Glad they found it thought. We had black mold, under the tile, in our bathroom at work and people were sick for months leading up to it!

BB, sorry to hear about the mold. I wish I had some advice to pass on, but the only time I see mold is on leftovers (not a big fan of leftovers). I can tell you to throw it out. That's what I do.

Seriously though, Good luck.

Thank you Toni! It absolutely could be! He's better for the most part, but is very suseptible to respiratory illness. That with the monster headaches I get...I think we may be on to something.

Thanks Connie!! It sure is a pain!!! We were actually going to wait until next year to do the remodel, but since the linoleum started to come up the project started a little sooner than anticipated.

At least I'll get 2 new bathrooms out of the deal!

Wow! I'm glad they found it and fixed it. It's some pretty nasty stuff. I'm interested to see what kinds of stuff we have growing in there.

I always think I'm gonna eat it, and then when I see it I think "Hmmm. This or ______." Leftovers never win. Stay away from spaghetti leftovers. They're funny looking with all the fur.

By the way, whenever any of you guys come over - I promise not to serve the furry food.

Oh yeah. In fact, they're kind of like Gizmo from Gremlins - just not as cute.
