Ideas for cooking

Post by ragtopW »

do any of you cooks that "develop" new Ideas have a place/thing you are doing when the "improvement comes??

I am normaly driving along and... Hey I should try adding this to that
and make a new dish..

my new Idea.. :pirate: using an already flavored cream cheese
(HoneyNut) to the cheesecake receipe and seeing what that would do..

anyone else?

Sorry. The extent of my cooking is picking up the phone and calling Golden City, or Randazzo's.

Hey look - speaking about cooking, I just made 700 posts - Half baked Cookies in the Oven.

Usually, I'm putzing around in the kitchen or in the supermarket. Sometimes it's because someone asked me if I can make something like something they had when they ate out or whatnot, and I try to modify a recipe to do that, sometimes it's just for lack of anything better to do :)

The flavored cream cheese's work great in cream pies, so I'd love to hear how it works out in a cheesecake.
Cooking is like love. It should be entered into with abandon or not at all..

Wayne and Sy . . . those things seem to come to me when I am falling asleep . . . "What if I puréed that first? Maybe the _________ flavour would come out more subtly . . ."

I am also thinking of adding Jalapeno jelly to the cream cheese
( as with the dip.) and using a crushed pretzel crust..

Mmmm....that does sound good. You could also try adding some crushed ginger snaps to that pretzel crust, gives it a nice kick, or a little bit of cinnamon for less of a kick :)

I do a lot of thinking when I'm driving too, Wayne. :D

But if I'm trying something new? I always look for ways to make a few 'adjustments' to the recipe.

Or changing up something I've been making for years. Different spices or sauces to add. :)

How often on your commute to work do you think of all the different things you can do with scrapple???

As for your question, Wayne, I am a horrible cook so I generally avoid thinking about it just as much as I avoid doing it.

Actually, there aren't many things you can do with it. Cook it & eat it as a brekkie side, or as a brekkie meat in a sammich. Mmmm. Scrapple.

(Most of the commute is spent checking my eyelids for holes.)

My commute is 2 hours door-to-door, but mostly on a train so I really have no room to complain....except for when Amtrak decides to be really really crappy.

Take a block of cream cheese, dump pineapple preserves over it. Spread on Pepperidge Farm Wheat Crackers. YUM.

When I first moved to NJ I had never even heard of scrapple but it's a staple here (at least for some people). Just the name still freaks me out a little and I still ahve not tried it.

...and I can pretty much guarantee that you never will. If you didn't eat it when you didn't know better, there's no way your brain will let you try it now.
