I've been to NYC once, and there's a bunch of places I'd rather go to first before going back to the city again (no offense). Plus, it'd probably be easier for me to fly out St. Louis than Chicago. That's a five hour drive.mings wrote:Or you could just hop a cheap flight out of Chi-town and spend a rad weekend in the City. I know a great tropical themed bar in the City.Ilph wrote:Thanks. Ok. fly out of St Louis. My friend goes back home to there often and finds cheap flights fairly often. The last time you were in New York, did you visit and do the touristy stuff or did you hang out with people you knew? The city can be very imposing (and therefore un-fun) for tourists on their own.Ilph wrote:I've been to NYC once, and there's a bunch of places I'd rather go to first before going back to the city again (no offense). A guy I knew lived in Jersey, and he showed us around to a bunch of stuff. Empire state building, Statue of Liberty cruise (it was two months after 9/11 and still closed), Les Miserables, Times Square, the harbor, Wall Street, etc.mings wrote:Ok. fly out of St Louis. ok. So this time you're ready for your real visit to NYC. Those tourist places are ok, but they're just that - tourist traps. You need to experience the City like those who live in it. Wake up, grab brunch or a bagel. Check out a street fare in the village. spend the day, just chillilng in different neighborhoods, window shopping or people watching. Tons of good - off the beaten path - places for grub. Then spend the night at a few bars and hop around until it's time to close the eyes for a few hours and do it all over again.Ilph wrote:A guy I knew lived in Jersey, and he showed us around to a bunch of stuff. have friends that are big fans, and we were fortunate to see Spamalot in Chicago before it went to Broadway, with the wonderful original cast---it was great-highly recommended.

Waikiki Wally's. Anywhere where the waitresses are wearing bathing suit tops and the walls are painted to look like a tropical beach ic cool with me.nycparrothead wrote:Mo's Caribbean? Or somewhere else?mings wrote:I know a great tropical themed bar in the City.

Does anyone know, is Spamalot touring?
LOVE Python! Been a huge fan since I was a kid, sneaking up at nights to watch with my big brother. Then I was blessed to marry a man who is just a big a fan of both Python and Buffett as I am! Whodda thunk it?!
Too many favorite lines to be able to pick a #1 fave.
Anyway, you can keep up on SpamALot here: http://www.montypythonsspamalot.com/
Last I heard, they were trying to book a couple years worth at Wynn's in Vegas. Which is cool for us West Coast folks!

Another Python fan here. Love the Spanish Inquisition, and all the movies. Hubby is a HUGE fan--we have the entire Flying Circus set on DVD.

Lumberjack Song - Monty Pythontikitatas wrote:Great songs, too!
I'm a lumberjack and I'm OK
I sleep all night and I work all day.
Chorus:
He's a lumberjack and he's OK
He sleeps all night and he works all day.
I cut down trees, I eat my lunch
I go to the lavatory.
On Wednesdays I go shopping and have buttered scones for tea
Mounties:
He cut down trees, he eat his lunch
He go to the lavatory.
On Wednesdays he go shopping and has buttered scones for tea.
Chorus:
He's a lumberjack and he's OK
He sleeps all night and he works all day.
I cut down trees, I skip and jump
I like to press wild flowers.
I put on women's clothing and hang around in bars.
Mounties:
He cuts down trees, he skips and jumps
He likes to press wild flowers.
He puts on women's clothing and hangs around in bars?!
Chorus:
He's a lumberjack and he's OK
He sleeps all night and he works all day.
I cut down trees, I wear high heels
Suspenders and a bra.
I wish I'd been a girlie, just like my dear papa!
Mounties:
He cuts down trees, he wears high heels?!
Suspenders...and a bra?!
...He's a lumberjack and he's OK
He sleeps all night and he works all day.

He/I sleep all night and he/I work all day.
