Yes. From the comic strip Blondie. The sanwich gets is name from him, because of the sandwiches he is always making are huge. But now, it is a also specific type of sandwich in someplaces, that can vary somewhat...like ordering a specific sub, such as a roastbeef sub, "I will take the Dagwood.", but as I said, that is not everywhere and it does vary.

I call them Subs or Po-Boys. When I first heard the name Po-boy, I thought it came from your financial state after buying all the ingriedients to make them.....LOL

Ask for a hoagie around here and you are probably going to get some dumb looks.
For some reason a good pastrami and swiss is usually hard to find around here. I went into Subway some years ago and the guy dd not even know what pastrami is
