Good Luck and Phins up
Until they let people in KW obviously no one will be going anywhere..... I am hoping there is an organized relief effort that ParrotHeads could participate with should that be the case.

There won't be air travel to the keys for a bit as there is a TFR set up around the entire keys. Only rescue aircraft will be taking to the air...for the most part. I don't think this is a time Key West will be prepared for many visitors.

We lived down there during Hurricane Georges in Sept of '98. They didn't let anyone in for a week that didn't have a Monroe county address. And the damage we had then is nothing compared to what has happened.

Two Friends, and the Sebago cam in the Bight are also live.

I've read PHIP emails that say the Key West airport will be open Friday at the earliest. Okay, Friday is before next Tuesday...I'm going!

I also posted this in the "Who's going to" thread, but this looks to be our guide:
"Visitors to the Florida Keys must postpone their vacations until the destination's infrastructure can be restored. Check www.fla-keys.com for updates. "
Currently, all of the keys are still closed.

Another good source is US 1 radio, 104.1 that is broadcasting live right out of Key West right now. They are talking about the recovery efforts right now going about in town.

I got this today:
Hi folks,
There is some optimism in the air. The main power source to Key West from
Miami is live and well, they are turning the power on in grids throughout Key
West. Parts of Duval Street already have power.
The City Manager stated that the plan is for the Airport to open on Friday.
I have heard from one City Commissioner and he is very optimistic from a city
standpoint... We stall have a long way to go to see about the Street
Festival.
I am waiting on a real assessment of the host hotel. Initial reports, thanks
to Tim Glancey, are that there is a shot (I REPEAT SHOT) will be able to
proceed in some fashion at the Casa Marina and Reach. I am waiting to get a full
assessment of the host hotel and will report back on that.
Still not sure about sound and staging at this point, unfortunately, no news
is NOT good news in this case and this is a huge consideration in proceeding
with the larger stages.
It sounds like all of the bars we deal with are ready to reopen or already
open... Rick's/Durty Harry's will be fine for the Listserv Party, The Conch
Republic Seafood Company will reopen today so we should be all set for the Club
Leaders Brunch and the Friday Night Block Party and the Hogs Breath is o
pening again also so we should be okay for the Welcome to Key West Party on
Wednesday... Margaritaville should be good to go also... The storm surge made it
all the way up to the Bull & Whistle folks, that is a lot of water!!!
We have a long way to go before we can call Meeting of the Minds a go or not
but we are working in the right direction.
Stay tuned for the next update when I have further info...
Alex
PS I am getting so many emails I must apologize for not responding to each
and every one...

Alex pulls this off, and we should make SURE he has a free bar tab in KW all next week.

I just talked to the Key Lodge Hotel on Duval. Their 4' elevation saved them from the water, they just got the power back, and they're cleaning up after a couple of big trees came down on the property. They expect to be open for bidness by the weekend, if not before, depending on when the city opens.

We don't need any stages or amplifiers. We can be Quietly Making Noise!
The Trails of Margaritaville tour may be even more interesting this year.

Fantasy Fest has been postponed...

I'd think Alex, the organizers and KW itself will want to make MOTM work, not so much for us but to get tourism $ back into the area - they will need it badly.
I'm all for the musicians going unplugged or using much smaller stages, etc. - whatever they can rig up. But the musicians have to be okay with it too.
I'm glad to see KW is slowly getting back on its feet. I really hope MOTM can happen and we can somehow help them out while we're there. Heck, isn't that what PHs are about?

My place in Grassy Key got a five foot tidal surge. And I hear it was worse in KW. I'm scared to go down and clean up because who knows what else may be lurking out in the ocean. Hurricane season doesn't end till mid November. There was already sand piled up to my windows from Rita. Hopefully it helped keep some of the water out of the house this time. Keep positive vibes going and MOTM will happen
