I'll say here what I said elsewhere:
The girl displayed all indications of being well-versed and proficient. She passed her hunter safety course with a 98. She was in the company of two responsible adults. They were hunting on familiar territory near their home. She brought the bear down at a safe distance. (Double tap, to be certain.)

If I were her pa I'd would let her do it again next year (and before I'd let her ride her bike to the store down the road).
I'd be damned proud of her. (Hell, I am!)

KEWL BEANS!!!!

There was an 11 year old girl that went hunting with her Dad and killed a 590 pound moose. Now they are going deer hunting.

This goes to show what a positive influence and being trained in firearms safety, responsibility and woodcraft, from an early age can accomplish.

Who says hunting is only for "macho" guys, rednecks, and drunks now???

They are definitely Daddy's little girls. I pity the fool, that ever messes with them!!!

If it's an activity she does under the supervision of responsible adults, then more power to her.

It's better than watching TV or playing video games.

Hunting isn't really my thing, but it's apparently an integral part of this gal's family.

It also teaches a valuable lesson on life and death.

I could never kill a bear..unless it was a danger to me, I would never purposely go hunt one. or that moose that kid shot, either.....

Only with a camera!!

Now, I love shooting...and all different kinds of firearms..but not shooting at any.....critter.. !!!!!

I got a nice doe a few years ago that way...

And have since become a big fan of other people deer hunting.

But an 8 year old killing a bear? That's so wrong, you gotta let the old guys have some glory!

btw - Western Maryland needed this bear hunt. There are far too many bears for the amount of open space and forage available. (Tried putting them on a bus to West Virginia, but they all came back and complained.)
The only people opposed to this bear hunt (following a 50-year moratorium) were the hardcore bunnyhuggers.

This girl could probably pass the test for SWAT Sharpshooters. Damn!

i'm impressed. It's just another example of females being able to do whatever they want. Watch out guys. Women might have better hand/eye coordination and actually excell at this if given the chance.
I hate shooting animals just for glory. But bears have no natural predators anymore. Their populations are growing too large. Either the numbers are thinned thru a hunt or it will be starvation deaths. It's the same way for deer. I hope they are actually going to eat the bear meat though.
