I want to get to ND. Supposedly the University of North Dakota has a $100 million hockey arena. Hockey's ok, and I suppose ND is too. I really just want to see what a $100 million arena is like.

It's Pedro, the huge Mexican guy at South of the Border (or S.O.B., as they used to call it before somebody made sure the billboards were politically correct).

You would have loved the old store...

It used to be almost an adult store with dirty postcards and souvenirs, etc. Should have seen us preacher's kids all tumble out, looking wide-eyed at the paraphernalia on every trip to Pennsylvania and back to S.C. And asking Mom & Dad to explain all those innuendos on the billboards.

The guy who opened that place was real Dirty Old Man, God rest his soul!

Not only that, it's a shrine to good ol' boy politics. Look at a map of I-95, and you'll notice that through the Carolinas, it makes an awkward curve to the East, rather than going through Columbia, as originally planned.
The owner of the motel that became Soth of the Border paid off everyone he could think of to make sure I-95 ran right through Bennettsville so that his motel (which sat on the North-South artery that I-95 would effectively replace) would continue to rake in the trucker business that had made him rich.

1. I have driven through south of the border over 10 times and not once until last year has it ever been open when we were driving through.... scary! cockroach in the one rest that was open. They need a casino and a strip club...lol

Les and I watched the movie and were like "WTF??!!" - yet not that I have seen it we keep talkin about tots and impersonating Napoleon.... it was one of those movies that it was so dumb it was funny.
