Fried Turkey ?

Post by sy »

Another thread reminded me of fried turkey (and Thanksgiving). I had never had a fried turkey until two years ago when the men in my family all gathered on the driveway and fried one up. It was delicious and I couldn't believe I had never had such a thing! Now we do one every year for Thanksgiving and Christmas.

Just curious about everyone else....

The hubby has been doing this for years. :D
It's so much better than baked.
You don't even need gravy with it!
It cooks so quickly too...
And it doesn't tie up the oven!

Would you actually fry it in anything else? I don't think I've ever seen reference to any other kind of oil for frying turkey?

We made a last minute decision to deep fry a turkey one sunday and we were stuck in a small town that didn't have peanut oil at the only grocery store for 20 miles and we just used regular vegatable oil and it was still pretty damn good. Not nearly as good as peanut oil of course, but it worked!

Love it!!!! You can use any oil in a pinch, but everyone I know of has always said to use peanut oil.
I have not actually fried one, since I don't have a cooker. I have several friends that do. It is definitely a lot quicker than baking in the oven.
Roll with the punches, play all of your hunches...come what may...

I like Turducken

We fry one every Thanksgiving. We also throw one on the smoker.

I feel sorry for people who don't drink. When they wake up in the morning, that's as good as they're going to feel all day.

Thanksgiving morning we begin @ 5 am drinking bloody mary's and mimosa's and frying turkeys. I fry turkey for anyone in the neighborhood that brings me a turkey.Last thanksgiving I fried 14, I already have request for 11 this year.We just make it a early morning party where all the men usually come over to my patio and we start drinking and frying turkeys,we have done this for 6 years now and it seems to get bigger every year.
