As old fashioned as the original now seems it will be hard to ever top it, no matter the amount of special effects. Still, the latest update does have it's moments and is certainly a vast improvement over the 1976 remake.
I enjoyed it alot. not a perfect movie but very entertaining....
I agree, particularly regarding the majoritiy of the action sequences.

The 40 year old virgin: Very funny

War of the Worlds: It was ok, predictable and didn't care for the ending.

All the way thru?

shoot, I have no idea. I tend to come into them, or have to leave them on cable all the time. and oddly, I seem to be capable of re-seeing the same segment over and over just randomly tuning in.

The first hour was a little dull but then, they had to get to the island first so I expected that..
After that, it was all out action
Pretty good!!

I know it's hard to top a classic but I really liked this.
From the same guys that brought you Bad Santa (which some people like....that would be me.....and some don't)
The story pretty much mirrored the original with some additional parts written in as well as some changes.
Buttermaker is still a cigar smoking drunk but unlike Matthau, Billy Bob's version is more sexual or I guess you could say perverted.
Still crude in some parts and just as much cussing as the original!!!

btw, I recently bought the original at Walmart for $5.50

This is the time of the year where I try to see a lot of movies so..........

Good Night and Good Luck---outstanding

Rent-what can I say-I like musicals, and liked this one

Capote-an amazing performance

Brokeback Mountain-really good and not nearly as explicit as some of you think it is

The Producers-having seen them on stage, this is basically a film version of the Broadway show and is very over the top, and very funny

Not sure if this counts!!!!! :D :D :D :D I watched "Concky Tonkin' in Key West" MOTM 2005 Music and Photo Video CD just last night. It's well worth the $20.00. The music is superb and the photos really tell the story. :P :P :P OBTW JB does the intro which I thought was pretty cool.

I didn't know it was ready for delivery! Thanks for the mention.

Last movie I watched was one I have never seen called Wild Iris and replayed on Lifetime.

I guess it was pretty timely to put this movie on Lifetime and Gena Rowlands is one of my favs.

Here's what I've seen in the last week.....

King Kong (the new one in theaters)
I will say it was very, very well done. But OMG I could have easily shaved a good forty five minutes of that movie without taking anything away from it. There were several scenes that just dragged on and on without adding anything to the movie itself.

Mr and Mrs Smith (DVD)
Image
I absolutely love this movie. I saw it in the theater and it's just as good on dvd. Great action and great story and very well acted, imho :)

Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust (anime, dvd)
Image
Sequel to Vampire Hunter D. Eh. Not nearly as good or original as the first. Not worth the purchase price.

Going to see Hostel and Bloodrayne on Saturday :)
Cooking is like love. It should be entered into with abandon or not at all..

I saw it this weekend as well and I thought it was excellent. I would recommend this movie to anyone and everyone. I am not usually a fan of "thinking movies" but this was really good.

CAPOTE.

Powerful. Well done. And the guy who plays Perry Smith? OMG. What a performance. Had been hearing all the hype about Hoffman's nailing his role, but this kid (Clifton Collins, Jr.) was amazing.

Well said.

Finally saw Capote, and I was impressed.

This film was a very pleasant surprise!!
Pierce Brosnan happily trashes his Bond persona, and Kinnear makes a perfect, imperfect partner! Go see it! :D
