Jimmy quietly helps out again

Post by Ceol na Mara »

I was just on Peter Mayer's site and was browsing through his links. One is to International Partners in Mission. And lookie what I found at http://www.ipm-connections.org/displaye ... le&oID=246:

SAVE THE DATE for IPM's Annual Luncheon in Cleveland

This year IPM is hosting its 3rd Annual Awards Luncheon, on November 11, 2005 from 11:30am until 1:30pm at Windows on the River. The 3rd Annual Rev. Richard E. Sering Award will be presented to Jimmy Buffet & the Singing for Change Foundation in honor of their unprecedented support of IPM’s tsunami redevelopment efforts. IPM Executive Director, Joseph Cistone will address the topic: The Tsunami Disaster 10 Months Out: Achievements and Challenges in Southeastern India.

IPM is working with roughly 100 families in the southeastern India community of Nagercoil who have been identified as worst-case, losing their homes and livelihoods during the tsunami. These families subsisted on the local fishing industry, which provided a source of nourishment and protein for both the fisherman’s families and the community at large. Prior to the tsunami, the fisherman utilized the original catamaran, four palm trees tied together to form a shallow boat. The tsunami removed all the palm trees in its path; the material to rebuild their boats does not exist to rebuild them. IPM, in partnership with this year’s luncheon honoree, is providing new boats, supplies, housing and medical support to these families.

Peter Mayer will play one song at the event in person. They are working on a hookup for Jimmy to appear via a satellite feed. The whole thing should wrap up by 1:30pm. :D

Yes, that's their misspelling, not mine!

I googled to see if I could find anything else on this, and I didn't know whether to do "IPM Buffett luncheon" or "IPM Buffet luncheon"!
