Who's research? Just because someone does 'research' doesn't make it right. I'm very optimisitc, but also realistic.
I suggest you read the site, look at the links, and read the research yourself. It is very clear.
I did read. All I got out of it was this:

Mix it Up is a nationwide campaign to identify, question and break down walls of division. The Study Circles Resource Center and Tolerance.org and Teaching Tolerance — two projects of the Southern Poverty Law Center — combined efforts to create Mix It Up.
Nothing more to me than a bunch of talking. Just like HR departments try to do on the job with treating others the 'right' way. Some folks just won't, no matter how much they talk or how many seminars they go to.

Again, it doesn't make it gospel just because someone did a 'study' and reasearch.
I never preached this as "gospel" just put it out there to answer questions for some that wanted to know. As for the "study" and "research" , it is extensive and reaches back to the days our founding fathers sat down and wrote the preamble, the declaration of independance, and the constitution. The modern movement has it's roots in the civil rights movement of the 50s and 60s. I chose to post this today, because of the fact that this is the week that the movement has chosen to promote positive change in the school system. I like things that include rather than exclude people.

I think for the most part it's just a natural inclination to hang out with and befriend people you share interests with. If an individual participates in multiple extra-curricular activities, and is friendly to any and everyone, they can choose whichever "table" they want to sit with, and switch it up every day!

I don't see it as a problem unless there is exclusivity, and I honestly never experienced that.

Please elaborate and show us where the facts, websites, and studies are to back this up? I'm rather curious.

I also took the research classes and realize that I can make statistics say exactly what my funding source wants it to say.

I posted the link to this site, primarily due the timeliness, and partly because it is a great jumping off point. If you go to the site guide page and then link the "Tolerance in the US" articles you will find direct articles with links to the research. I thought you said you read the site????

I said "I read". Never said how much. Don't have the time in my evening to read every link with articles to articles and comment. But since you seem to be such a supporter of the information, I asked you to elaborate, since I'm not in the educational field, and wanted you to explain and back up your comments. What does "great jumping off point" mean?

A jumping off point is a place to start for someone that is interested in pursuing a topic of interest. If you are interested the information and the answers to your questions are there. Another great way to start off, have lunch with someone you don't know tomorrow. Pick a person that you percieve to be different than you. Step outside the box and see where your tolerance lies. Take a positive step in the right direction. Give it a try, what can it hurt? what can it cost? the price of a lunch.

I thought that this thread was about alcohol tolerance. I've given that a try, and I'm pretty good in that department if I don't say so myself.
"Oh all the money that e'er I spent, I spent it in good company.
And all the harm that I ever did, Alas it was to none but me.
And since it falls, unto my lot, that I should rise and you should not
I'll gently rise and I'll softly call, 'Goodnight and Joy be with you all.'"

I guess I won't be jumping off, since I'm not really interested in pursuing your thead.

I was interested, but with the time constraints of my day, I was hoping you could post the information, with the direct links, so people could easily read them without having to search and search and search.

I only get a 1/2 hour for lunch, and I usually don't go 'out' to lunch, but bring my own, and eat at my desk.

Frankly, I don't percieve anyone to be different than I am. And I have a very high tolerance of people, and I don't live in a box, so I can't think outside of one.

So who are YOU having lunch with tomorrow that you percieve as different than you?

I graduated from both H.S. & college in the 70's, so my memory's a little foggy  , but from what I remember, cliques were pervasive then. And having 2 of my 3 kids through school, it doesn't seem much has changed.

Groups & cliques are great when people can share common interests. Sometimes, however, it seems like certain people in groups appear to derive pleasure or status by excluding people from their group. It's not always a matter of just be nice and any group will accept you.

If only it were that simple. :)

by asking us to discontinue the hijacking, you are not being very tolerant of our conversation, and that bothers me

Have you ever read that book? It hurts your head, but it all makes sense.
