Cruising to Georgetown and Ochos Rios
The day after Thanksgiving my wife and I are going on a five day Royal Caribbean Cruise to Georgetown, Grand Cayman and Ochos Rios, Jamaica.
Anyone been to either and do you recommend anything?
We're not not doing the excursions the cruise line offers and would rather go our own way.
Thanks

I just did a little research online and it seems that when in Georgetown most people go to Seven Mile Beach.
When in Ochos Rios you might want to go to Dunn's Falls
hope that helps

Ochie is easy.... Dunns River Falls and M-ville! All with in 5 minutes of the cruise docks. I expect you are only there for a day... so there won't be alot of time for much more.sonofabeach wrote:The day after Thanksgiving my wife and I are going on a five day Royal Caribbean Cruise to Georgetown, Grand Cayman and Ochos Rios, Jamaica.

Caymans is very small..... I would find some place to snorkel or lie on the 7 mile beach....
Shopping is everywhere..... all touristy type place. Every place barters...cept M-ville!!!

I, as usual, have no valuable input...but I thought you chatting with yourself was somewhat humoroussonofabeach wrote:hey sobsonofabeach wrote:The day after Thanksgiving my wife and I are going on a five day Royal Caribbean Cruise to Georgetown, Grand Cayman and Ochos Rios, Jamaica.

son!!!!!!!!!!!
Have a blast mon! There is a place in Grand Cayman right across the street from where the cruise ships drop you off, I will search our pictures to try to find the name, be sure to get a Cayman Lemonade there!
Margaritaville is a short walk from the pier in Ocho Rios, bring your bathing suit, they have a pool.
Be sure to go here and search the site for your free drink (when you find it, be sure to print 2)!

Now you have to come to our Christmas party on 12/10 and show us your pictures

Really, they must not like you
Are you sure you didn't see the free shots? We got pretty good sized glasses of it with out printed off thingys, but it was the same stuff that you got the free shot of so it's doubtful there was much booze in it.

I agree with whats been said... the stinrays in Grand Cayman are really cool and Dunns River Falls is a must in my opinion.... I am jealous! Just make sure that you pack any and all liquor to be smuggled in your checked luggage. If you try to carry it on it will be confiscated but we brought a rolling soft sided cooler, filled it with booze and mixers, stuffed a few towels on the top and checked it... it got to the room with no problem and the room steward kept it full of ice for us! Enjoy!!

At Georgetown you can shop, open up an offshore bank account, take the submarine ride, go to the turtle farm, Seven mile beach and of course you can go to Hell while you are visiting the Caymans.
A word of caution about Dunns River and Falls, if you decide to hire a local guide, try to get a group of people to go together. Over the last decade there have been a rash of scams, robberies and even a few rapes of individuals and/or couples who hire a local guide.
Otherwise go have fun, it's all good.

Well I'm back home for the cruise and I had a blast.
Ochos Rios, Jamaica was not what I expected. I know I was only there for one day but I was a little disappointed.
The rain forest was beautiful as well as Dunns River Falls but I would not wanna be around when it's dark. Lots of shady looking and beggin' folks in the area.
We took a tour of the mountains and surrounding neighborhoods and it was awesome. Got to see "Mick Jagger's" crib too.
The Margaritaville is very nice and right on the beach.
They had a hot tub and pool complete with a giant slide.
The overall set up was FINtastic.
I did not like the pushy people being on the beach trying to sell you beads and what not.
Georgetown was great and Seven Mile Beach is very nice.
Even got to see some sunning knockers on Grand Cayman..unfortunately she turned over when I whipped out the camera!!!
We had a blast on the boat...in fact my body still feels like I'm swaying.
