MonumentBeach wrote: Wow sounds good. What do you think about the brined bird compared to just preparing it normally? We tried the "brine" thing a couple years ago for the first time and it was a pleasant surprise.
Up until about three years ago, I always did a seasoned butterball, and I never had any problems. Then we saw a Good Eats (foodtv) episode about brining and how it would make it just that much better. Surprisingly, he was right. It has just a hint of extra flavor and seems to stay far juicier as it sits out and gets reheated. I wouldn't do it any differently now.

Since I am an "only child" so to speak and my Mom is not agile, I am the "cooker" of everything. Easter, Thanksgiving, Christmas, all birthday parties, all everything. But you know, I really don't mind. In fact, I enjoy it. My aunt is 9 years older than my Mom and although I know she CAN cook, why make her? My cousin that lives near is single and childless.

One Thanksgiving, about 10 years ago, we had Des, her son Jon and her Aunt Gertrude over. THAT was a good holiday. Mr. Don was in West By God Virginia with his brothers and Ms. Pat didn't need to have to cook. I guess in counting blessings this year, I HAVE to include all my PHriends, starting with her!

We usually have someone from church join us too. My diningroom seats 12 comfortably and we have 9 "regulars".

8) Nice suggestion there, Auntie. ;)

Mom does the Thanksgiving dinner. Always the best. :D the usual turkey, sausage/bread dressing, mashed taters, cranberry, corn somthing, and the yummiest pumpkin pie. Those are the 'musts'.. the appetizers and other side dishes are different every year. Mmmmm.. I'm hungry now. :D Oh, and the Broncos are playing! :D

I'm probably in the minority of folks who can't stand that stuff. :-? But then I can't stand green beans. :P

It's the only way Mollie will eat green beans. Everyone in my house LOVES it. And the more onions on top...the better.

OH! Don't forget, A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving is coming on that night! We watch it every year and the funny thing is, we have the video. As we unpack any season, we put on that Charlie Brown video for the kids while we pack/unpack boxes. This works for Easter, Halloween and Christmas as well.

I have a yummy recipe for a very fluffy mashed potato dish that includes the infamous ff onions sprinkled on top. It's excellent for Thanksgiving. Another must-have is the cranberry-orange sauce that I make from fresh cranberries and oranges (skin included). The recipe is usually on the cranberry bag.

I was never a cranberry sauce person. We always had those "can roll" cranberrys when I was younger.

But then one year I made my own, with fresh berries and OJ...so easy and SO YUMMY!
