Phin Power needed...a sad bunch of kids...
We read a newspaper story Friday. It said "Teenager killed in a one car accident North of Paris"... (Paris is the tiny town in Tennessee where we live.) I read the article and the boys name rang a bell but it didn't hit me...until later. It was one of my Son's 7th grade teacher's sons. The town we live in is barely 9000. We see everyone in Wal-Mart, at church or at the ball field. I just stopped while shopping for fixings for Thanksgiving dinner and chatted with Susan and she again told me how she LOVES my Jim. She has 3 boys of her own you know! Well, now she has 2 on Earth and one in Heaven. Matthew was the boy killed in the wreck. It was Thanksgiving night. He was driving home. He was in his seatbelt. He was clean and sober. The only factor in this horrible ordeal is speed. He owned a 2000 Mustang. At the viewing today, it was standing room only. There were literally hundreds of people there. Mostly teenagers. Lots we knew. I also knew a lot of the teachers there. It broke my heart. For the family. For the kids and especially for my Jim. He knew Matt and now his last memory is him lying in a casket, very made-up, due to the injuries from the wreck. I cried as did everyone else. I guess after I ask for prayers for everyone who knew and loved Matt, please go hug a young person. This could have been any of us. This has been the worst eye opener for us.

Oh, man. That's so sad. It's difficult to lose a friend so young. And I can't imagine what the mom is going through.

Gentilly ... 42 years is a long time to wait .... a Northeast Texas woman can hope.

I've always been sentimental when it comes to losing someone. I have especially become aware and saddened about losing someone since I became a mom. Even on my worst "hair pulling" days, I can't imagine the pain and sadness of losing your child. A young gal who I used to babysit, that now babysits for me, lost a friend of hers the week before Thanksgivingin a car accident. It was devastating for the small town that she lived in. She was an only child; her parents are devastated. It's going to be a tough road for you all. You are all inmy thoughts and prayers and please let us know if there is anything we can do to help.

Give that family hugs from here in South Fulton. If those parents want to talk to someone who has lost a child in an accident, have them get in touch with Gary and I. And Matt's two brothers need help too. When Marni died, a girl here in town who had lost her brother talked to my son Ryan about losing your only sibling. She helped Ryan so much. I wish I had had someone to talk to when I lost my brother, I felt so alone. This is the worse thing that can happen to a human being. From now on Thanksgiving will be associated with losing Matt, so they will need help now AND later.

prayers said. As the parent of 3 teen drivers, two who are boys who I know drive to fast, in spite of a million lectures this scares me to death. I have decided txhhat raising these late teens are much harder then any exhausting days with 2 6yos.
One son just got a speeding tix for going 84 in a 65mph zone. I'm hoping that the damage to his wallet will do what my million lectures haven't done.
