Ebay....is it worth it?

Post by buffettbride »

I have a ton of stuff (mostly kids clothes) that I'm thinking of selling on Ebay.

Anyone do this ever/regularly? Is it really worth the time/trouble to try and get some return on stuff I don't need anymore?

I sold a graphing calculator earlier this year on Craigslist and that went really well, but I'm a little askeered of Ebay. I've never bought or sold anything there.

Tips, tricks, advice?

i think it'd be worth it. But in order to make it managable you may need to group the clothes in lots. Check out similar sales and see how many bids they get. I'm thinking of listing some stuff this week. But i was wondering if sales for non gift items drop around the holidays.

I buy stuff, but mostly random things. I think you could make it work. I know people who retired from their old jobs to sell stuff on ebay. try it.

I've kinda poked around looking at the "lots" of clothing and I was wondering the same thing about the non-gift stuff.

I have a few of Victoria's Christmas dresses, though, and now would be a very good time to sell them.

There's also a child's consignment shop close to my house that I've sold a few things to here and there, but I'm not a big fan of that store.

I've bought and sold quite a few times. One big thing now is "Mystery Boxes".

I just sold a mystery box full of old toys for more than I expected. The best thing, is that you don't have to take a ton of pictures and you don't have to pay multiple listing fees. If you want to get some larger bids, it helps to share what one or two of the items are. Other than that, you just sell a box filled with "gifts" from you to the winner.

I've bought...never sold. No problem.

I recommend craigslist.com for selling your clothes items.
It's cheaper, simpler and, right now, a red-hot site.

  I'm not doing it to retire. I'm doing it to make some cash back on clothes that my kiddos have grown out of. I know the nice thing to do would be to give them to a charitable organization, but I'm also trying to make a little extra $$ for Xmas.

Well, that's what I'm saying - you can draw a fairly good amount of money if you do it right & sell the right stuff.

JUst keep in mind.... Paypal and Ebay will charge you a fee... Ebay charges based on the selling price...not shipping... alot of people get around high fees that way.... like the beer light I saw for $19... but shipping was $120!!

I have sold books and a DVD or 2... not going to get rich.... but everything went ok. Only one bidder didnt pay.

Thanks LB. I'm thinking I might do craigslist. Besides, it's FREE! Hubby is just not real keen on people showing up at the house to check stuff out, and I can see his point, especially w/ two small children and such.

When I sold the graphing calculator earlier this year, I met the lady downtown because that's where we both work.

I have a brand-new computer, also, that I'm trying to sell (I won it) and that didn't go over very well on Craigslist.

Yard sale season is over here in CO. I don't want this stuff sittin' around until spring/summer.

If I can't get rid of it, I'll donate what's left.

A friend of mine sells hers and her daughters clothes regularly on Ebay.

To get the higher price - always have the auction ending in "prime time" - ie 8.30pm at night - when most people are online.

She has most success with "label clothes" - people are not overly interested in paying for the clothes + shipping for nice looking non label clothes.

That's mostly what I have. A lot of Gap and Gymboree and stuff from Nordstroms. The nice stuff is what the kids have received as gift clothing.

I buy their stuff at Target!

Hi there-I sell on Ebay part-time...Just my two sense-I dont think clothes will really be worth your time-You have to pay for Ebay fees then of course you have to go out box them up and ship them-Clothes are not really the hottest thing on Ebay.
What sells esp this time of year is electronics and computers-I would def recommend that!!
