Answers - we've got answers!

So, in recent experience, I've noticed that us BNrs are fairly adept at providing answers to a variety of random questions. For instance, yesterday we helped Mal sell stuff on ebay, fix her palm pilot, and hire a cleaning lady. How productive! So I was thinking - lets take this to the next level. Post questions here that you've always wondered and perhaps someone will stumble along and have the answer. I'll start us off.
What the heck is a "hoosier"?
Why is Rhode Island called "Island" if it's a penninsula?
Is Disney World just a people trap operated by a mouse? (OK - this one's more of a Hmmmm. 'how 'bout that' comment and not a question.)

why is it, that with all the advertising associated with NASCAR, why aren't the cars referred to as the Home Depot car, the Lowes car, etc instead of by their numbers when the TV announcers talk about them?

Good question: considering I don't watch NASCAR at all, I can only offer this surface-level observation - might it be that either sponsorship rotates too frequently, while the number is more representative of the car's owner because the number doesn't change, drivers & sponsors do. Or, it may just be easier to say on the fly.

From the South "Hoosier" moved north and westward with the people into the Ohio Valley, where it was applied at first to the presumably unsophisticated inhabitants of Southern Indiana. Later it expanded to include all residents of the state and gradually lost its original, potent connotation of coarseness in manners, appearance, and intellect.
maybe it's time to revive the original meaning

I can think of 5 exceptions.

Because not all of it is a peninsula. Most of it can be considered part of the "mainland". There are only three fairly small peninsulas that aren't part of one of the islands.... Point Judith, Sakonnet, and Bristol.
The full, official name is "State of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations"....
There are plenty of islands in Rhode Island.... I live on one of them.... the peninsulas are part of "Providence Plantations"....

So then its not a mis-nomer? I contest that it is.

Contest all you want, but it's not a misnomer. The state is made up of islands and land that was previously known as Providence Plantations. Why ask the question if you're going to argue about the answer?

Actually, they do when not under a green flag. The action is usually so fast that they don't have time to under racing conditions. However, pre/post race interviews usually call it the sponsor's car. And drivers almost always call it the sponsor's car.
NASCAR.com wrote:A cut tire on Jimmie Johnson's No. 48 Lowe's Chevrolet in the season finale Ford 400 in Miami only pointed out how fraught with disaster contesting a championship can be.

I've been to RI twice, Newport both times. I felt like I was climbing a mountain when I crossed the Newport Bridge, that has to be the steepest bridge I've ever driven across.

It took me quite a while to get used to that bridge....
It's especially fun in ice and wind......
