I am hearing an alarm clock(like the Big Ben sound) in the background of "Happy Xmas (war is over). I've never heard that before. Is it really there, or am I hearing things?

Christmas Island
I couldnt help it. I broke it out a little early. Its so refreshing to hear an album that I havnt played in 11 months. Somehow I become very productive while listening to this CD.

I was standing in line at Starbucks the other day (yes, I know I am a corporate sell-out), and they were selling a CD that was entitled Elton John's Favorite Christmas Songs. I checked out the back cover and there it was - Christmas Island, by our own JB. Who knows is Sir Elton really selected this song, but I thought it was appropriate.
Buy the ticket, take the ride.

First time last week, got to listen to about the first 3 or 4 songs, boss-lady took it out of the cd player while I had gone outside for something, and left it on my desk w/a note, Not this! Before I had put it on she had said
can someone put on some Christmas Music!
Then today someone had put in a Christmas album, and it ended, no one put anything else on and maybe 3/4 of the way thru someone else said,
When are we going to get some good Christmas music around here
When it finished, I told her my album was done she could put on her CRAP, took about 20 minutes or 1/2 hour for someone else to put in Nat King Cole, and Frank Sinatra or Dean Martin
BTW I love it, and will continue to play it any chance I get at work!
What's fair is fair!

It's my favorite Christmas album! Favorite Xmas tune goes to The Band's Christmas Must Be Tonite.
I know Jimmy Buffett, Jimmy Buffett is a friend of mine. Son, you're no Jimmy Buffett!

I'm not sure if any other artist did this song or not. It appears as though Elton selected not only his favorite songs, but his favorite version of those songs. For example, he chose the Eagles version of "Please Come Home for Christmas." Given the fact that this album is partly designed to raise money for AIDS, my guess is they chose the biggest names they could get.Jahfin wrote:"Christmas Island" isn't a Buffett original.Lono wrote:I was standing in line at Starbucks the other day (yes, I know I am a corporate sell-out), and they were selling a CD that was entitled Elton John's Favorite Christmas Songs. It's always interesting to me when listening to one artist leads you to another. The only reason I found Jack Johnson is through Buffett.

You're right, at least according to the write up on Elton's Christmas album at allmusic.com (not sure why I seem to be the only one here that uses this tremendous resource). Check the list of songs below the review of Elton's album. I was going by a post I saw here the other day that said it wasn't a Buffett original. It still isn't, in the sense that Buffett didn't pen it himself but it appears that it was written for him.Lono wrote:I'm not sure if any other artist did this song or not. I remember hearing it on Jeopardy . .
the category was December birthdays. . and the answer was . .
" This popular singer/songwriter will celebrate his Dec. 25th . .
then they cut to an audio of " Christmas Island " . .
the contestant literally gave a (parrothead) smirk . .and said calmly . .
" who is Jimmy Buffett. . ? "
it was an $800 question, too . .
