actually I think the CD was worth the price. and the DVD was a nice bonus. Not to mention that for some reason Mailboat threw in a free T shirt.
Jimmys cd's at this point are few enough that I will probably keep buying them all,,,,

I just wish Jimmy would release some new material, which I think is long over due, instead of release after release of the same old stuff.

Here is what I mean starting in 1996:

1996 -- Banana Wind (YEAH!)
1996 -- Christmas Island (OK a new album, but it's a Christmas album, doesn't count)
1998 -- Don't Stop The Carnival (it's the freakin' musical track of a play)
1999 -- Beach House On The Moon (YEAH! This is more of what I am talking about)
1999 -- Buffett Live - Tuesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays (Live) (rehash)
2002 -- Far Side Of The World (YEAH! This is what I am talking about)
2003 -- Meet Me In Margaritaville (rehash)
2003 -- Live in Las Vegas, Nevada (rehash)
2003 -- Live in Auburn, Washington (rehash)
2003 -- Live in Cincinnati, Ohio (rehash)
2003 -- Live in Mansfield, Massachusetts (rehash)
2004 -- License to Chill (this was a science experiment IMHO and doesn't count  )
2005 -- Live in Hawaii (rehash)
2005 -- Live at Fenway Park (rehash)

So by my count, only 2 new albums in a decade. What's up with that?

Sorry, I know this may cause some flaming, but I had to rant.

I feel your pain

You know, I feel the same way! However the DVD was pretty good. But Jimmy is the king of marketing.

Hopefully there wil will be a new CD in 2006. A full concert DVD of the first Wrigley show would be nice though! I do not need the CD/dvd package!

I dunno about the guys, but this gal hasn't purchased any live CD or DVD. I've enjoyed all the concerts I've been to. And all the CD's I have.

So what if Christmas Island is a Christmas CD, why shouldn't that count? :-?
DSTC is a soundtrack, yes. But it make a real good CD. :D
L2C, an experiment? Buffett brings alot of new material to the table. 8)

Guess some poeple can't be satisfied

I see the DVD's included in the live sets as just a bonus. I don't buy the CD's just for the DVD that's included, but since it comes with it, why not just enjoy it. Lot's of artists are doing this these days with the current dual disc format. Jimmy simply puts the bonus stuff on another disc. I think a lot of folks are waiting for a full legnth DVD at some point, but for now, the bonus stuff is just that...a bonus.

I think the Don't Stop the Carnival project (meaning the play and the album) was a nice change of pace for Buffett. As for License To Chill "bringing a lot of new material to the table", I can't say I agree with that since the majority of the songs on that album were covers. That's not to say I don't like that album because I do. In fact, I like it quite a lot since Buffett seems to have a knack for interpreting other people songs, something he's done throughout his career. I also can't say I think of it as experimental. A bit of a departure from what some fans may have come to expect from him maybe but I'd much rather see him do stuff like that than stick to the exact same sound on each record. Regarding the live albums, what he's doing is very similar to what several other artists have been doing in recent years. Yes, there's a high repeat factor but would you rather he not release them at all? Personally, I haven't purchased them all myself and probably never will for the same reasons but no one's forcing me to either.

I have Meet Me In Margaritaville because it was released on my birthday and my father seems to think it's against the law not to get me a birthday present.

I have Live in Auburn because it has I Don't Know and The Wind Cries Mary, 2 songs I had never heard him do live.

I have Live in Hawaii because of the mini-DVD that came with it.

I have Live at Fenway Park because I was there.

I think a lot of people buy the Live in ... CDs because they like having copies of the shows they were at, so by releasing them JB is just serving a market that's already out there. Sure, people can get copies of those concerts from friends who didn't go to them and recorded them from Radio Margaritaville. But if Buffett can make a buck from them, why not?

The point I was trying to make is I would just like to see some new material released by Jimmy. No problem here if he wants to make a buck, but how about an album with new material. I am afraid I may be going through withdraw soon.

I absolutely agree with you why someone would buy one of the "Live In ..." or the Fenway CD/DVD. I thought it was awesome to hear PHs post that they saw themselves on the DVD. Pretty cool! I would buy the 2001 Camden show if it came out on CD or DVD in a New York minute. It was a great show and I have a lot of special memories of that night.

And LIPH, I am surprised that you don’t own all the live CDs. I thought you went to ALL the concerts? :D

Fenway is actually the only show I've been to that was released by Mailboat.

Just my two cents: I have them all and I will continue to buy them all (not to mention record them all off of Sirius). Yes there are alot of repeats, but I enjoy even the subtle differences from show to show and year to year. I listen to Buffett about 80% of the time, so it's nice to have different versions of songs that I hear all of the time.

I say put out 1 live show a month. Time to buy it (or download it-HINT-HINT), digest it, and move on to the next one 30 days later. Bring it on Mailboat!!!

Having said that, I'm very much looking forward to some new material next year. I'm hoping that between the new album and some songs on the Hoot soundtrack that we'll get 1 and 1/2 new albums next year.

I kind of like how he's no longer putting out new stuff just for the sake of putting out new stuff. As far as the rehashes... if the demand weren't there..... LTC, DSTC, FSOTW and the like were good because they were different... stuff that obviously seemed to take alot of work, time, and energy to put together.

Anyway, if you don't like the rehashing, save your money. It's very simple.

Certainly valid points... sure, there's been a lot of "rehash" stuff put out in recent years; however, the demand/desire has been there for these recordings (I've bought some and enjoyed them). It's nice to know Jimmy's heading back into the studio to record some more new material -- which he really doesn't need to do to sustain his career -- but it's great to see he still has the interest and drive to do this given all of his other endeavors.

I count 3 by your reasoning. Publik skool educashun?

Also, it's not fair to NOT count LTC as a new album. If you didn't like it, fine. But it was a new album.
As was Christmas Island, as was Don't Stop the Carnival.

MY COUNT: 6 New albums in a decade.

Could be worse....you could be a BOSTON fan.....

I have all the live C.D.s and a few bootleg concert C.D.s, so I seriously doubt if I'll buy anymore any time soon.
How many versions of Cheeseburger In Paradise do I need?

As for the "Don't Stop the Carnival" C.D., I liked it the first time I played it, and since reading the book, it's become on of my all-time favorites.

"Christmas Island" is an excellent C.D. too.

Captain, thanks for checking my reasoning. You are correct; it is 3 by my reasoning. Unfortunately I did not have the opportunity to attend publik skool. :(
